A woman called Cindy Sheehan whose son was killed in Iraq is galvanising anti-war opinion in the USA to an arguably greater extent than any previous anti-war protests. She is camped at the side of the road with a small (growing) number of accomplices at Bush's ranch in Crawford (Waco) Texas for the last couple of days and is demanding Bush meet her and explain a few things to her. ... read full story / add a comment

Enda is still missing. My mother, wife of Micheál Ó Seighin (one of Rossport 5) is among those looking for him. He said the earliest he could meet them would be Monday morning. This is not good enough Enda. They are, as I type, staging a picket outside his house. Maureen McGrath, wife of Philip McGrath (one of Rossport 5) is also there.

These people have homes and people to mind and farms to run. They have much better things to do than looking for their elected representative. Watch out Enda. We in Mayo have long long memories. The elections will come around and he will have to do some canvassing.

Enda needs to take his job seriously and do as the people of Mayo, indeed the people of Ireland, want. Support the Shell to Sea campaign and put pressure on Shell to lift their injunction and let the Rossport 5 come home. ... read full story / add a comment

Art Encounter 2005 was an artistic exchange which saw young artists from Cork, Nicaragua and Columbia living and working together in Cork for the month of July.
The culmination of the months work was a public art exhibition in St. Dominic's Meditation Centre, Colmcille Avenue, Mayfield from 2st to 23rd July.
As part of this exhibition an art encounter tent was set up for 3 days in the city centre at Emmet place, a recently rejuvinated street outside the Crawford art gallery and Cork Opera house, in which a giant postcard was created on which members of the public were invited to share their dreams with the world.
here are some of the dreams.
the postcard is being sent out to the Venice Bienelle ("the art olympics").
We invite you, those in the virtual world, to share some of your dreams ... read full story / add a comment

Martin Collins of the Derrybrien Development Society has been investigating the various deals done between the Public State body Coillte and the various private enterprises regarding the development of the wind-farms at Derrybrien, which led to the land-slide in 2003. The information below is taken from the website of the Office of the Information Commissioner (http://www.oic.gov.ie), in reference to an FOI request made by Martin Collins.

In particular, the conduct of the parties (i.e. Coillte, Saorgus and the Dept. of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources) is heavily criticised by the Commissioner. ... read full story / add a comment
