A sketchy report on the Irish Anti-War Movement website states that a U.S. troop carrier plane was attacked and sabotaged at Shannon airport. From other sources I understand that that Omni used this aircraft as a spare and that was parked in a relatively remote area of the airport when disarmed a day or so ago by having its hydraulic or fuel lines severed. ... read full story / add a comment

Valentine’s Day was marked at Shannon Airport by a vigil calling for Love not War. Around 25 people gathered in the sunshine outside the airport entrance, displaying black hearts and calling for an end to the U.S. military use of Shannon. Report by Grainne V: On December 31st 2009, 18 people gathered together on Scarriff Bridge to remember the over 1,400 Palestinians in Gaza who were killed by the Israeli Army last year and to stand in solidarity with the survivors of that attack, cynically named 'Operation Cast Lead'. The very idea that the future of Shannon Airport should be dependent on American conflict around the world is the latest U turn from the Green Party in Clare, a spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein said today. Paddy Kenneally from Crusheen, a party spokesman in North Clare said that the latest statement by the Green Party Councillor Brian Meany in relation to the future of Shannon Airport is an insult to all the Irish people who have campaigned against imperialism and American military expansionism. As another year begins, peace and human rights activists in Ireland’s mid-West continue to oppose the role of Shannon airport in war and torture. The first events of the year will include a Peace Camp commemoration on Jan 6th, followed by the regular monthly vigil on Jan 11th. Pat Breen, Fine Gael TD from Bunratty, showed that he's been listening to the lies about natural resources, and he believes them, when he spoke about Corrib in the Dáil. A relaxed yet determined crowd gathered at the monthly vigil in Shannon this Sunday evening to protest against the ongoing use of the airport by the US military and CIA. Not surprisingly there was an unidentified aircraft sitting on the airport tarmac at the time.
