If you are feeling strong this morning Rabble published a must read article yesterday on the 796 dead children found in a mass grave at the St.Mary’s Mother and Baby Home, Tuam. That's not a misprint, for the 40 years this institution operated at least one child died a fortnight, a death rate that approached 10% of those in the home per year! They ranged from 2 days (Thomas Duffy) to 9 years (Sheila Tuohy) old. ... read full story / add a comment

Galway S2S and Rossport Solidarity Camp members challenged the head of SEPIL, Michael Crothers, to answer for the crimes Shell has commited.

The Managing Director of Shell E&P Ireland, Michael Crothers, came to the NUI Galway Energy Night on the evening of Feb 28th. He was part of a PR delegation that promoted Shell's progress in attempting to bring the Corrib Gas Project on-stream. A group of local Galway Shelltosea activists and Rossport Solidarity Camp members with ethical objections to the Gas Project staged a peaceful protest to express their concerns. Shell has been allowed to remove 125,000 tonnes of peat bog from an area directly including, and surrounded by, EU Special Areas of Conservation. The Irish government has failed in its legal duty to protect the natural habitats upon which Shell are currently working. In relation to the negative environmental consequences of the CGP, Crother's response was to praise Shell's environmental record as "exemplary".

Occupy Galway anniversary assembly disrupted by Gardai: Yesterday marked the 1st anniversary of the establishment of the Occupy movement in Galway. The Galway Alliance Against War will hold an unprecedented protest outside the home of Labour Deputy Derek Nolan tomorrow Sunday. We will assemble at 1pm at the entrance to the Riverside Estate on the Tuam Road Galway. This is a response to a deeply political raid by Garda Special Branch on the home of Niall Farrell, GAAW's PRO, on Thursday morning. The intention is to make it clear that such political harassment by the coalition's thought police will not be accepted! Please attend and spread the word.
