The Danish civil disobedient, Ulla Røder, has written a summary of events in Denmark, including the delivery of a declaration of support for the Pitstop Ploughshares activists to the Irish embassy in Denmark. Ulla herself will be in court in Denmark this week for the conclusion of a case against her and four other activists who last November held a demonstration in the Danish parliament against Denmark’s continued participation in the war in Iraq. ... read full story / add a comment

LABOUR leader Pat Rabbitte has been summoned to appear before a Complaints Committee of his own party. It is the first time in the history of the State that a party leader will be investigated by his own party. If the complaint by a councillor, which accuses him of "acting in a manner unbecoming of a Labour Party leader" is fully upheld, he could face suspension or even expulsion. ... read full story / add a comment

A CIA plane used to abduct suspected terrorists for torture in other countries landed in Copenhagen in March. Frank Aaen, Danish MP for the Red-Green Alliance, party spokesperson on defence issues and member of the Foreign Policy Committee, is calling the Conservative Danish foreign minister to explain what the plane was doing in Copenhagen. According to the Norwegian paper Aftenbladet, the foreign minister originally refused to put a stop to overflights of CIA abduction planes, stating that they were not in contravention of Danish law. He has recently told the American authorities that Danish airspace may not be used for purposes that are in contravention of international conventions. [But who knows how the US will interpret that?] The article below is a translation from an article by the Danish wire service, Ritzau. ... read full story / add a comment

To let the jurors get away for the bank holiday, it was a short sitting today. The defence has made a brief opening of its case yesterday afternoon.
