The Irish Climate camp will take place this year in County Tyrone, from the 12th to the 16th of August. The camp is taking place in support of the local community and their opposition to the proposed new A5. Climate Camp Ireland is a group of individuals that believe in taking direct action against the local causes of climate change. The Camp is open to anyone to attend, and will host numerous workshops on many aspects of climate change. On Saturday July 3rd, Climate Campers took part in a rally organised by the Alternative A5 Alliance in the area surrounding Victoria Bridge, Co. Tyrone to mark their opposition to the planned building of a new dual carriageway. The rally was a silent and symbolic affair with a hearse carrying a coffin with flowers and wreaths. Sinn Féin councillor Marty McColgan has welcomed the passage of a motion at Omagh District Council which 'condemns the repressive measures by the Spanish state against Basque political youth organisation, Segi' and calls for 'an end to repressive measures against the pro independence movement in the Basque country.' The Sinn Féin motion was inspired by West Tyrone Ógra Shinn Féin who has maintained strong fraternal links with the Basque Youth Movement, vigorously campaigning against the repression in the Basque Country and has hosted a number of Segi delegations in the local area in the recent past. ... read full story / add a comment

There was a large turn out in Derry today outside Stand Road PSNI/RUC station following the suspicious death of Strabane political prisoner, John Brady. A white-line vigil gathered together many shades of republicanism represented, many held black flags. ... read full story / add a comment

On Saturday 3rd January, as thousands of people rallied for Palestine across Ireland, and the world, a protest was organised locally in Omagh by West Tyrone Ógra Shinn Féin. Chairperson of Omagh District Council Martin McColgan attended the protest to demonstrate his solidarity. The protest was held on the busy High Street, attracting positive attention from the January sales shoppers, many commenting that they where appalled by Israel’s actions in Gaza. Thousands marched from Galbally to Cappagh in County Tyrone on Sunday 6 May in memory of the Loughgall Martyrs. Republicans from throughout Tyrone and Ireland gathered to honour the eight brave IRA volunteers who where butchered in the Armagh village of Loughgall 20 years ago by the SAS, on the 8 May 1987. Shell to Sea is the issue for the Ógra Shinn Féin A.R.I.S.E campaign this month, and the protest was held to raise public awareness through the protest and the hundreds of leaflets that where distributed at it. West Tyrone Ógra Shinn Féin organised a tour of Long Kesh Concentration Camp, last Friday 29th September. The tour was very emotive as the delegation visited the hospital wing where 10 Irish Republican Prisoners bravely give their life on Hungerstrike 25 years ago. The Cages, and H4 were also visited. All together 16 Young Republican activists attended the tour and witnessed at first hand Long Kesh, the site of so much tragedy and torture, yet also massive resilience and struggle. At 4.00pm today (9 August), West Tyrone Ogra Shinn Fein held a spontaneous protest in Omagh to highlight the escalating barbaric massacre of the Lebanese people. The Lebanese cannot even bury their dead with dignity as only yesterday Israeli jets bombed a funeral cortage killing 13. Over 1000 leaflets where distributed in the County town of Tyrone to raise awarness about the barbarity and to make a stand against the atrocity. Passing cars honked their horns in support of the protest and many people passing through the town stopped to either join in with the protest or to talk to those handing out leaflets. On Saturday 27th May, Ogra Shinn Fein in strabane held a "Smash Political Policing" protest at railway street in the town. The protest was in response to the recent harassment of young Republicans in west Tyrone by the RUC/PSNI. During the protest, a number of Ogra Shinn Fein activists occupied the rooftop of the library and dropped a banner reading "Smash Political Policing Now". The protestors sounded airhorns and whistles to get the public's attention, while activists on the ground distributed information leaflets on political policing. While returning from the protest one young activist was approached and grabbed by a member of the RUC/PSNI, though when confronted by another group of protestors the harassment ceased. ... read full story / add a comment

The PSNI in Strabane have been accused of harrassing members of Ógra Shinn Féin on Friday the 19th of May. The Republican Youth organisation has claimed that plain-clothed members of the PSNI harassed two well known members. A member of Ógra Shinn Féin from west Tyrone had been jailed for 3 days in the past week. Danny Turnbull from Omagh was held in Maghaberry jail in Co. Antrim from Monday 20th until Thursday 23rd.
