Addiction, Fear, Shyness, drug take and why, those who stand back absorbed in shyness, those who will not participate at school - the student who hates reading out, the student hates going to school, the student who could be helped if only someone knew..........In England people had mentors....and personally I think this is a great idea. Shy children often hide deep dark talents which are lost in a curriculum that is in fact destroying their life changes. ... read full story / add a comment

Lieutenant General Dermot Earley the gung-ho ex-Ranger and commander of the Irish military must be licking his lips! The Minister for Foreign Affairs says he expects a Government decision to be made on Tuesday over the deployment of up to four hundred Irish troops in eastern Chad. Dermot Ahern has just returned from a four day visit to Sudan and Chad, during which he met with Government leaders as well as aid workers and local people. If the Government gives its go-ahead for the mission the Dáil will then have to give its approval. A gung-ho military bored with guarding armoured money vans wants to get its hands dirty in a nasty imperialist war in Africa. ... read full story / add a comment

Tony Blair had self-nominated David Miliband to take up the cudgels of office in the wake of his departure from office, but apart from creating a few little ripples the whole idea was a non-starter for Blair and for Miliband. He got placed, instead in Britain's Foreign Office and last night he began to use his office to 'make speeches' , which are both unbelievably crass and inopportune. They involve beligerence against an already pissed off Putin and a diplomatic word to 'Keep our promises to Turkey', meanwhile in Turkey, a political party with connections to the PKK is being banned. We all know what that means in Ireland.. Reductio ad Absurdum.:Reduce debate, achieve political consensus and sell off assets to benefit the wealthy. ... read full story / add a comment

People in Erris and around the world are puzzled by the resemblance of the new Garda Superintendent in Belmullet with "Johnny Sack" Sacramoni from the Sopranos Television programme. http://www.hbo.com/sopranos/cast/character/johnny_sack....shtml http://www.mayonews.ie/index.php?option=com_content&tas...id=38 Locals have speculated that the two may be related, or even whether the actor Vince Curatola has been hired by Mayo Gardaí to portray a heavy-handed police officer. Recent gangster tactics seen in Erris may indicate that the actor has taken his role too far. ... read full story / add a comment

Personal Reflections of illness and the Irish system MRSA and its impact on people, on families........Are we negligent? It is not acceptable for our hospitals to be plagued with a disease that is in effect a silent killer and if it fails to kill you leaves you a victim for life of health system that will eventually destroy you. For people with long term illness, the lack of multi-disciplinary medics and an over abundance of management/staff, cleaners etc., the hospitals do not get cleaned as used to be the case. ... read full story / add a comment

Today's papers suggest 'Bertie it is time to go' and would Mary Harney go with him. Also included is Professor Drumm and the bureaucrats in the HSE. Should everyone return to the classroom and learn to count? Add up numbers published in press releases, is 7,000 classroom assistants a rounded up or down figure? Not by any stretch of the imagination are all classroom assistants members of a trade union. I am disappointed this is not an election year. Can you imagine the squirming and questions left hanging in the air by the "can we have your vote" and move the earth for you campaigners. Imagine an election turnout like GMB ballot figures signify anyone notice how did the GPA fair in comparison to GMB? (footballers). On the 04/09/07 there was a press release detailing a possible mis-diagnosis problem in relation to the mammogram service at Portlaoise Hospital, the press release said that there were possibly 5,000 women effected and there was no press release from Mary Harney's Department. The
Hospital board and the HSE managed the timed release of materials including the fact that
many of the patients had been on the Treatment Purchase Fund Scheme. This info emanated
in the direct aftermath of Ms Harney's travelling to Barrington's Hospital in Cork where up to
1,000 women were similarly effected. Today there is a press release from DOHC which is
written in response to emergent details of 8 women with a diagnosis of cancer who had
been cleared and 19 awaiting second opinions. http://www.dodc.ie/press/releaes/2007/200711102b.html ... read full story / add a comment

GMB have had the best response ever to their ballot on the classroom assistants dispute. This may seem to be a possitive thing. However some important questions need to be answered and if anyone from the GMB read this I would love to hear their replies. 1) How many classroom assistants do you represent? 2) Why were ballot papers sent to cleaners, and caretakers? ... read full story / add a comment

With Iraq in ruins and the oil resources secured, the neo-cons that run the west have now turned their malign attention to Iran. All media is now saturated with propaganda putting Iran in the role of aggressor and a threat to world peace.Others day and daily place stories in the media portraying the internal position as one of oppression and brutality in which the Iranian people are supposedly yearning to be liberated by the west. Nothing could be further from the truth. Iranians want noting to do with western style "democracy" Medialens has collated a number of examples of how the media is being manipulated by the neo-cons as they whip up support for an attack on Iran We should take great care of what and who we give credance to in this very dangerous game in which Iran and it's perople are targeted and placed in deadly danger. ... read full story / add a comment
