Disappointments

category national | worker & community struggles and protests | opinion/analysis author Friday November 09, 2007 15:36author by solidarity seeker Report this post to the editors

Life is full of disappointments, Ms Ruane is "Disappointed" classroom assistants are returning to strike action.

Classroom Assistants are "Disappointed" Ms Ruane has done nothing to end this dispute. They are "Disappointed" that management have treated them with contempt for 12 years. NIPSA members are "Disappointed" with the lack of support from so called brother and sister unions (Proving the point you can chose your friends but not your family) So Ms Ruane doesn't have a monopoly on "Disappointment". How can we bring an end to this widespread disappointment?
If management were serious about solving this issue they would address the route causes of the dispute, not this "Smokescreen" offer that does nothing to address the issues that NIPSA had 93% mandate for strike action on.
I'm sure management, Ms Ruane, and all will continue to be disappointed that NIPSA isn't going to lay down and die on this one.

I would like to respond to whoever was on the radio today (I only heard the report second hand) Talking about NIPSA not balloting its members, and vital decisions being taken by the "Chosen few". Just to put the record straight.
It isn't a chosen few, it is a large group of elected reps. the most important fact being they were "Chosen"/elected by classroom assistants. Everyone present at the meeting last night had attended numerous meetings in the proceeding week, some coming straight from one meeting to report members views to that meeting. Every branch of NIPSA was represented and had a mandated position to debate. Every classroom assistant represented by NIPSA had the oppertunity to make their feelings and wishes known.
NIPSA can be rightly proud of the level of consultation with its members on this issue, and the hard work and time the reps and officials have put into this.
