offsite link The Left Has Been Hijacked by Narcissists Sat Feb 22, 2025 07:00 | Steven Tucker
The hysterical reaction of some women to Trump of sterilising themselves validates the findings of a recent medical paper that the Left is being hijacked by narcissists who are sinking its causes with the public.

It's been exasperating to watch as, in defiance of the wishes of Western electorates, the cultural make-up of our countries is radically transformed. It's time to scrap the asylum system, says Lionel Shriver.

Sometimes Trump's mercantilist thinking is so radical as to be wildly, crazily brilliant, as with the Gaza Riviera plan. But on Ukraine it's letting him ? and the West ? down, says Ian Rons.

I have in front of me a document issued by the National Bus and Rail Union. It’s one page long and makes one of the most impassioned, informed attacks on the ‘privatisation’ mantra at the heart of this governments approach to public needs. I didn’t get mailed it, read it in a newspaper – it was handed to me as a single A4 page that someone picked up on a bus. read full story / add a comment

Nine of the ten anti-war activists arrested during the mass trespass at Shannon airport on 12 October 2002 will be up in court in Tulla District Court again on Wednesday. Most pleaded not guilty at their last appearance and the case was consequently postponed. It is expected that they will receive their sentences on Wednesday. The nine were arrested following the successful pulling down of the fence and a 100-strong mass trespass on airport grounds following an anti-war rally at the airport. Five of those up in court are from the rebel city of Cork. All hail the Peoples Republic of Cork!! read full story / add a comment

The defense secretary has denied reports that the United States is considering an arrangement to have permanent access to some bases in Iraq. Long, dangerous and difficult work remains in both Iraq and Afghanistan, Rumsfeld said told reporters aboard his plane, which stopped in Ireland to refuel. The flight was delayed several hours as workers fixed brake pads on the landing gear which broke during the landing. "One ought not to think of this as a victory tour," Rumsfeld said, noting that coalition forces in both Iraq and Afghanistan still are coming under sporadic attacks. "The task before us in Iraq will take a lot of focused attention over a period of time." Rumsfeld said that in Afghanistan he will discuss with Afghan leaders and U.S. military officials a formal declaration that major combat is over. He would not say whether a similar declaration for Iraq is imminent. read full story / add a comment

TUI Congress Delegates Organize Solidarity with teachers and Schools in Iraq There was a standing ovation for Nuria Mustafa, an Iraqi citizen, when she addressed the TUI Congress in Ennis on Tuesday 22nd April. Nuria was invited to speak at a fringe meeting by Dublin City post primary delegates. Congress Standing Orders, at delegates request, changed the order of business in order that Nuria could address the whole Congress. Nuria called on Irish teachers to send delegations to Iraq and for Irish schools and colleges to twin with schools in Iraq. 2 delegates, wearing T-shirts with the slogan ‘Irish Neutrality RIP’, presented petitions to the Minister for Education calling on the Irish Government to end their political support for US foreign policy and the use of facilities at Shannon Airport. An Irish pub in Afghanistan has been shut down, just weeks after it opened. The Irish Club in the capital Kabul was the country's only bar. It shut down after receiving warnings it could be the target of a terrorist attack. News of the threats were passed onto the owner by the US Embassy and the UN, which also banned its staff from visiting. A UN official said if someone were to bomb it, the entire international community could be wiped out in one night. The bar will remain shut for at least a week. read full story / add a comment
