Why did people waste national air-time on this show discussing useless information on the points of who organised the press conference, the demo tomorrow etc.. If there are things to be ironed out by those who are involved since Monday surely the Joe Duffy show is the last place to do this. It seems to me Duffy did a good job getting yis all off the point!! ... read full story / add a comment

Due to the unnecessary and excessive use of extreme force by members of the Garda Siochana as displayed at the recent peaceful protest in Dublin on 06 May 2002, there will be a passive demonstration of outrage and disgust at the hideous and uncalled for employment of violence against free citizens of the state exercising their civil right to protest, at 8pm on Thursday 9th May outside Mill Street Garda Station,Galway. Methinks they do not want to have to deal with the irate citizens of Dublin who are currently gazing at the Evening Herald in mild disbelief in some areas and with happiness that this kind of brutality (which is usually efficiently swept under the nearest available carpet by the labrynthine and useless cop complaints procedures which exist in Ireland) is now out in the light. By the way do y'all know that the latin City Motto on lampposts all over the city translates as 'Obedient Citizens make a happy city'. ... read full story / add a comment

In the aftermath of RTS 2002, we should all identify which goals can be achieved in the short term. I have two suggestions. I believe that when addressing the media these points shud be repeated and repeated again. They do address the issue of violence which is also v. important obviously. ... read full story / add a comment

Thursday's protest has been, on best interpretation, called as an instant knee-jerk reaction, and on worse interpretations, called as an attempt to make political capital out of this for particular organisation(s)or even as a chance for the establishment to discredit the victims of Garda attack. ... read full story / add a comment

I've been asked to put this up from some of the RTS organisers of Mondays event. "Globalise resistance have called a demonstration for 6.pm Thursday at Pearse st police station to protest at police brutality. We are not happy with the way GR called this. But given that it has been called we think it is important that it is attended by a large number of people and so encourage people to attend" ... read full story / add a comment

Let's pace ourselves - this is part of a struggle thats been going on for a long time. If we're serious about change, we are faced with a long haul. Let's not get sucked into aggression and hate, even of the cops - which feeds the beast, and is a fucking waste of energy. Revolution starts inside each person - check yourself out, and look for love and compassion. Its everything that this system doesnt have. I think Thursday is a good idea, but lets show them that that we are differant. No rivalry, accusations, aggression or paranoia ( what a gift to the corporation). Come as you are, have a good time, take care of eachother. See yez. ... read full story / add a comment

How about an end to this GR protest, especially if it is to include political plackards and the like. I would like to attend because I was disgusted at the treatment of people that night but I do not want to be misrepresented by anyone else. How about a group getting together and organising white peace ribbons to be handed out and worn by anyone against the police brutality that night. This may be a silent peaceful way of protesting. If something does break out on thursday all the good work will be lost. Mail, call or text if you like to help out. G Collins. PEACEFUL Protester ... read full story / add a comment

Reading some of the posts here and listening to media coverage it is clear that some people are keen to scapegoat a few Gardai for what happened. The suggestion is that only 6-8 were involved in a single incident of violence. This is not what happened. ... read full story / add a comment
