Poland ought be at the top of the agenda of any politically clued in European BGLT activist or anyone (such as myself) who merely supports their rights.

Last week the deputy minister of education in the quite frankly weirdest administration in the EU anounced a new bill which will prohibit any person of declared homosexuality or any person who supports "homosexuality" from teaching in either schools or universities. the Polish government has officially suggested & proposed legislation for employment descrimination on grounds of sexual orientation & moreover - proposed legislation which strips citizens of their right to free-expression

It seems now that arch stickie Sean Garland will now escape extradition after all.
You might recall that he had to flee the 6 counties not so long ago to avoid the PSNI\RUC extraditing him to America to face allegations of forging US bank notes in collusion with N.Korea.

This is a result of the latest tete a tete between N.Korea and the US. In attempts to encourage the process it seems the yanks have agreed to overlook the whole forgery affair and thus it seems to be that Garland wont be donning an orange boiler suit with matching ear muffs anytime soon, and mores the pity in many peoples opinion (see a recent thread here on Indymedia on Garlands threatened extradition, if anyone has the link can they post it as I cant find it). ... read full story / add a comment

Since about 3 month half of all universities are occupied and on strike. This Thursday March 8 in Athens and Thessalonica, two great demonstrations took place at the time when the Parliament voted the new law -cadre, which opens universities to private companies.
In Athens, 40.000 demonstrators were in the streets, 5000 in Thessalonica. The demonstration of Athens was regarded as the main event and gathered demonstrators from all of Greece. That of Thessalonica was more local and gathered students from the city itself and north of Greece. The protests become more and more militant, as repression by state escalates.
