Please accept my apologies for the delay in this posting. Had an essay to do when I got back from London.
The overall atmosphere of the event was one of solidarity and inclusiveness. There was a 3 day scheduled lined up for the bush visit. Beginning on the 19th Nov and ending on 21st Nov. The first night say the environmentalists demo. A colorful and lively crowd with a wonderful bicycle powered sound system. The next demos of note to place on the direct action day. In general these was peaceful but with the excessive amount of police on duty it couldn't have been anything else. The final major demonstration took place with all the excitement that was expected/ The crowd lined the streets of London for as far as the eye could see. All of the planned events went off without any major incidents. ... read full story / add a comment

Over the past 5 weeks I have got myself a new job. Every Wednesday morning I arise at 7 am and head out to join the brother, along with comrades from the SWP Dun Laoghaire branch (who, in fairness, have gotten up even earlier!) and some local non-payers. Our mission to make sure that every bin on the Granville Road, Doonsalla, Watsons road is lifted whether they have paid some, all or no bin tax. December 6th saw the largest anti-war demonstration at Shannon airport since April of last year. Some 400 people took part in what the Irish Anti War Movement (IAWM) had advertised as a blockade of the airport. The blockade was supported by the Grassroots Network Against War. Recently released figures reveal 115,000 US troops passed through Shannon on the way to Iraq last year, confirming its central role in the US military supply chain ... read full story / add a comment

I need to give some background to why this letter is dated. Fintan wrote and sent this letter out to me on December 2nd, to be put out before the blockade. It arrived in my letterbox today, December 8th. Other letters he has sent have arrived within 24 hours of sending. The prison censors must have made a conscious, politically motivated decision to delay the sending of this one, as it encourages people to attend December 6th and make it a success. I doubt that the delay is the fault of An Post, given the speed with which Fintan's other letters have been delivered. We know the blockade was indeed a success, but I thought it appropriate to post this letter up verbatim regardless, because we wouldn't want to buy into attempts to silence an anti-war prisoner. Instead, let's use this as fuel to spark the planning of the next blockade.
