Workers in the wake of Katrina are trying to self organize and fight back. Some of us activists here in the US are trying to help them both by going there and also by sending financial and other aid. Our aim is to help the workers self organize as opposed to being pushed around by the government and its many agencies. Arising out of this self organizing comes increased consciousness about our own power and this can lead to increased consciousness and struggle in all other areas of all of our lives.

Tuesday saw the continuation of Ciaron's testimony, and Damien Moran took the stand, to not only explain what he did and why, but at the request of the prosecutor, young Damo demonstrated the correct way to hold and use a hammer!
On Wednesday, 4 witnesses were in the stand. First, a retired RAF group captain gave expert testimony as to the effect that disrupting military supply lines has on a war effort. Then Jimmy Massey told the court about his time in Kuwait and Iraq as a US Marine Staff Sgt around the time of the action.
Karen Fallon spent 50 minutes in the stand telling it like it is, and Deirdre Clancy commenced her testimony, which continues tomorrow. Report based on our notes. ... read full story / add a comment

There are serious concerns over the 10 year timescale outlined in the announcement Transport 21 proposal relating to the Navan railway line.

In 1859, it took only 3 years to clear & build the 26 mile Navan line by hand, using picks and shovels. Work commenced in October 1859 and was completed in August 1862 - surely the line can be reopened much earlier than 2015 using modern track laying technology along the old allignment? ... read full story / add a comment

A CIA plane used to abduct suspected terrorists for torture in other countries landed in Copenhagen in March.

Frank Aaen, Danish MP for the Red-Green Alliance, party spokesperson on defence issues and member of the Foreign Policy Committee, is calling the Conservative Danish foreign minister to explain what the plane was doing in Copenhagen.

According to the Norwegian paper Aftenbladet, the foreign minister originally refused to put a stop to overflights of CIA abduction planes, stating that they were not in contravention of Danish law. He has recently told the American authorities that Danish airspace may not be used for purposes that are in contravention of international conventions. [But who knows how the US will interpret that?]
