hi, I know you guys work really hard and I realise this is a user run forum, which I try to contribute towards from my home in the UK, but the frontpage is always up for weeks and weeks on end. There are lots of new and more interesting stories which appear on the newswire but nobody ever updates it. I know you're gonna jump on me and say 'why don't you do it'?. I live in teh Uk and cannot but I don't honestly think it takes more than 15 mins to update the frontpage. This will make teh site look fresher and more happening. Perhaps your volunteers can rotate this job on a weekly basis or something? But keep up the great work otherwise!!! read full story / add a comment

(13:12) A French tourist has become the latest victim in a spate of attacks on foreigners in Ireland. Gardaí say the man was stabbed in the back by an attacker who attempted to steal his mobile phone. The tourist was admitted to hospital for treatment and was discharged. The knife attack took place in Parnell Street in Dublin's inner city yesterday evening. Two hours later, a man was repeatedly stabbed when he intervened in a row between a man and a woman outside a pub on Dorset Street in Dublin. The victim was admitted to hospital where his condition is described as serious. read full story / add a comment

Lots of conversations at Ecotopia about this. What does anybody think? UK Decentralisation is proving slow and difficult - I think this is because a sense of ownership was built up by the London Crew who originated it and this has caused problems. I would love to see Belfast, Limerick, Cork, Galway, Dublin IMC's all feeding into an Ireland one or even a UK and Ireland one. I am writing this to begin a public debate on the subject. Should we set up a dedicated list to discuss this. IMC Irl - which is really in all honesty a Dublin IMC is getting a bigger volume of features and newswire stuff suddenly and features are going late or unpublished due to the fact that it is voluntary and people can only afford so much time - decentralisation I think would give an incentive to more people to get involved without travelling read full story / add a comment

folks, I would like to appeal for comments on what I see as a weird twist of priorities amongst many Irish people campaigning for social justice around the country. I just read an article on the An Phoblacht site at http://www.irlnet.com/aprn/current/news/15stud.html - It's about a young Catholic student being beaten to death because of his religion. This is Alabama and it's only a few hrs from Dublin. I realise the importance of reclaim the streets, the earth summit work, travellers and refugee rights, racism work, sustainable development etc. etc BUT - are brothers and sisters are under daily attack. It seems we have been collectively brainwashed to consider 'the north' as an unsolvable problem that we must leave up to the champagne politicians of all sides. Do we really care about the North. Has anybody even bothered to travel there. It seems many in the 26 counties can't even name read full story / add a comment |
