I would like to thank the Socialist Party for blocking the honouring of Pat Finucane in Queens University. Coming after their support for the recruitment stall for the British Army this was greatly welcomed. In particular I would like to say say how much I appreciated their Marxist line that any bursary named after Pat Finucane would be sectarian. From our perspective any Catholic civil rights lawyer is Republican and therefore with British Intelligence we organise to kill them. Obviously to oppose this policy is sectarian. Thanks a lot to all the lads in the SP for giving us and our paymasters Left cover. Please renew our subscription to the Voice. read full story / add a comment

Noticed in the Irish Times there yesterday, that the Socialist Party chose to attend the opening sessions of the so called "Forum for Peace and Reconciliation". True, Sinn Fein also chose not to attend but what reasons can the SP give for their attendance, other that they have a TD in the Dail. What good is there coming from this talk shop unless it is a opportunity to give a socialist viewpoint? read full story / add a comment

"In a policy shift that reaches across all the armed services, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Michael McDowell has just introduced a new Justice Bill which could pose a serious threat to privacy. This bill demands that data relating to the personal details of citizens (mobile phone calls, internet usage etc.) be retained for up to four years as opposed to a shorter period for billing purposes (c. 6 months) as was previously the case. This bill contravenes European directives on privacy and is one we should keep a close eye on, because it certainly seems the Government intends to keep a close eye on us! read full story / add a comment

Raytheon, the worlds largest missile manufacturer is using its Derry software plant, set up thanks to nobel peace laureate saint John Hume ("I didn't know they were the world's largest missile manufacturers") and £800 Million of MOD (British Ministry of Defence) money, to develop targeting software for it's Airbourne Stand Off Radar (ASTOR) and other missile guidance and attack targeting projects. The Israelis use Raytheon gear regularly against Palestinians (see below). Raytheon, whose share value peaked after September 11 (more instability=more sales), are at the cutting edge of the militarisation of the Irish economy. Monthly vigil Saturday Dec 7 at 5pm raytheon plant. Branch Road, Derry. read full story / add a comment
