Irish cement multinational, Cement Roadstone Holdings (CRH) has a 25% share( with an option to buy 25% more) in Mashav, the holding company of Neshev Cement Israel's sole cement producer. Mashav "runs two dry process production lines at its main facility in Ramla and a single semi-dry process plant at Har Tuv, which supplies cement throughout Israel, the West Bank and Gaza". CRH's former chairman Des Traynor was the central figure in the Ansbacher scandal, and more recently the company has been implicated in illegal dumping in Wicklow and has had a number of legal actions taken against it in the US in relation to asbestos. http://www.crh.ie/ (see 2001 Annual report page 8-9) http://www.onbusiness.ie/2001/0810/crh.html read full story / add a comment

The events that took place during the peaceful protest outside the Dial on the 2nd of April are to go down in Irish modern day protest legend. Whatever side your on, you'll probably agree that there is a more pressing issue to be dealt with, however the 2nd of April, once again draws attention to the problems within the Gardai, and only further serves the calls for an independent Garda complaints board. read full story / add a comment

this afternoon (friday 4 april) a lorry driver went to aldergrove airport (belfast international airport) to deliver goods to a building site. he noticed what he said were two *very* large us planes there. he didn't get close enough to them to see what was happening around them, and i am not sure how he could tell they were us planes. there was a very high level of security at the airport. any reports on aldergrove being used for us military transport purposes to the gulf? i haven't seen any reports about it at all so i don't want to jump to conclusions. read full story / add a comment
