reflections on last nights anchor newsprogram on Television which is always toxic.

With viewers fluctuatating between 2.8 million and less for its popular afternoon "soap" the Catalan language broadcaster 3.3 plays a key role in "national unity and indentity" of the modern Catalan people.

The weekly prog. "alnit-aldia" combines an intelligent weather forecast with lots of interesting titbits, with interviews and the obligatory book reviews or chat with ageing pop musician.

Last night the politician interviewed was the Minister of Technology and Communications in the Madrid Government Mr Josep Piqué. He looks like a vampire with long aquiline nose arched nostrils and ears that lack lobes. He is a Catalan as the name suggests and combines his role as Madrid minister with the rather lack-lustre job of leading the PP in Catalonia.

The PP are the present ruling party with absolute majority in the Peninsula, but in Catalonia they lack any real strength. The PP finds its strength from its roots in the beurocracy of Franco's dictatorship and as such may justly be called a "reconstructed Fascist party".

Mr Josep Piqué thus leader of the Catalan reconstructed Fascist Party last night spoke for about twehty minutes on themes as diverse as Global Security policy, the future review of the Statute which allows the Peninsula the co-operation of the Catalan people through the constitution which serves to join the Generalitat of Catalunya with the Kingdom Of Spain.

It really was quite a good performance on his part all considered. He faced no other choice but to take to TV as apologist for the War Machine the night which saw the other channels broadcast an interview with probable successor to present leader of the Generalitat Mr Artur Mas, and two porn movies. one soft one hard. There were also a selection of pop videos, a dubbed american movie of the Fifties and a glamour based chat show.

He managed to maintain his furrowed brow (six etched lines) in the upraised position for six consecutive blatant lies.

Mr Piqué espressed the position of the PP in short terms thus,
The USA is a superpower, it's the only in one in town, the French are the French and Europe is not just about France and Germany, it may be about the US/K instead. Yes the United States of America acting through the Kingdoms of Spain and Britain.

The next piece focused on the other regional sub-state of Spain which through it's ruling majorty party the PNV has also made clear it's view on a renoegotiating the statute which joins the people of the Basque to Madrid. The photographs in the background showed two press conferences by groups sympathetic to ETA at the time of the last ceasefire in the late Nineties. The other flag was the Irish tricolour.

The good folk at 3.3 showed two such conferences with Irish and Basque flag from 1998 and 1999.

The programe ended with an anti-War American singer songwriter making very "Democrat" noises.

The word "liberty" was only said 3 times.

Liberty or "llibertat" as it is in Catalan, is a word that at the moment those of the "right" ...."might is right" ilk are attempting to colour.

The prog. above showed you the boundaries of certain people's perception of thier own identity and their own place in the "order" of nations identities and Europe and thus this War.

The majority of Catalans regardless of their feelings of "spanishness" fell instictively to be for "peace", that is for "the difficult thing which results from

Dialogue
Reconciliation
Justice
Foregiveness

These qualities worknig with many others allow "liberty". Mr Piqué conveniently rewrote his own people's history be they Catalan or Spanish last night to argue that "The liberty of Europe was a result of the USA".

He appeared to me to have conveniently forgotten that prior to Eisenhower, Spain under Franco had sent regiments to fight the Russians, had fought a land based resistance against Fascism, and had brutally become the longest Fascist regime in European history. He appeared to have equated those times with an "acceptable" level of "liberty".

When I with many others protested Bush's incumbency of the White House it is as a result of a belief in Democracy.
When I with many others expressed our horror at Sept 11 it was a clear indication that we felt that current adminstration in the White House to be an unsuitable one for the task that this century must surely entail,

"Reproachment with Islam".

Long Long after all the "terrorists" may be imprisoned, and all the "terrorist" Apparata "destroyed" the people remain.
All "terrorists" began as "people". To stop conflict one must remove the sources of conflict and make them as non inflamatory as possible, be that a in Ireland, Afghanistan, Columbia, Spain, Iraq or Palestine.

I really don't think we should allow these people who control Washington now to further undermine our understanding of "liberty".

IN these last weeks I have spent much time speaking to tourists of the USA and the UK on the streets of Barcelona concerning Peace, and War.
This has presented some with an opportunity to chat with the Mr O'asif and the exchanges have been frank. Some of these exchanges have found their way to FM radio. I shall particularly remember the British Army Officer whose brow did not furrow when he explained that War is always illegal and a most unpleasant task best suited to unpleasant souls. He however did concur with me that this administration

the "only superpower" the "US" of the /kingdom,

has failed to guarantee the future diplomatic campaigns of the perhaps more important "global anti-terrorist war". It may in long term history be remembered as the greatest failure of Bush's White House that they could not protect thier people from Sept 11.

It is now time to write this to Americans. "Would you have suffered Sept. 11 with another Presidency?"

Are you really led by minds suited to the most difficult and I agree with Piqué on this "most complicated task of assuring peace and security".

I somehow think not.
