Cork Anti-War Campaign puts Michael Martin on the run

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Saturday April 05, 2003 23:04author by Fintan Lane - Cork Anti-War Campaignauthor email corkantiwar at hotmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Picket of Fianna Fail offices in Cork today

A group of more than 20 members of the Cork Anti-War Campaign picketed the regional headquarters of Fianna Fail in Cork this morning while Michael Martin was scheduled to hold his weekly clinic. However, there was a no-show from Minister Martin who decided to cancel his clinic rather than face the anti-war protest. A group of anti-war protesters invaded and occupied his office two weeks ago, causing him to flee the building. It would seem that the minister anticipated a repeat performance today and protesters arrived to find a closed door, two yellow-jacketed gardai, and no minister. Nonetheless, the picketers remained outside for well over an hour, distributed leaflets, and chalked anti-FF and anti-war slogans on the pavement in front of the building.

The Cork Anti-War Campaign will hold a vigil at 6pm on Monday, 7 April on Daunt Square, in solidarity with those protesting at the same time in Belfast against Bush and Blair. Please bring placards etc.

Carloads of Cork activists from the city and Clonakilty will also travel north to take part in the protest.

We notice our friends at IMC removed our previous comments regarding Dr. Lane. Luckly we wrote down his address and filed it it away in a safe place!

Lets hope no harm comes to him.
