IMC Eds.-Other comments and stories re:Sinn Fein/Bush visit below. Please add comments not articles This is why Gerry Adams will meet George W. Bush, you should pitty him he has no choice! Ladies and Gentlemen lets consider where SF gets its money from, lets say ‘97 to ’01 please find below a copy of a document I’ve seen: my favorite “donation” has to be the cheque for US$295,740 in ’01 from the boys and gals on Wall Street – that seems a long way from a “tin” in a pub in west Belfast! Perhaps it’s one of those new Laundromats – I know SF like to recycle their money. Value of Donation Type of Donation Name of Donor Address of Donor Sinn Féin Donation Statement 1997 Sinn Féin Donation Statement 1998 Sinn Féin Donation Statement 1999 Sinn Féin Donation Statement 2000 Sinn Féin Donation Statement 2001 Seems to me like SF raise a massive amount of money in the US, one wonders how anti-US they’ll be now that the war in Iraq started! I’m sure their principals will come first!

Bernadette is barred from going to the US but Gerry is welcome. Does this not say it all?
Perhaps Gerry can bring Bernadette and she can do a "Maulding" on him. Or is Sinn Fein simply "standing idly by?"
When you lie down with dogs
You get up with fleas
Given his trenchent defence of all things republican, just wondering will Pat C condemn Sinn Fein for meeting Bush in Belfast.
Gerry Adams has blood on his hands - what did you expect a dove - more like a vulture
by Richard Waghorn Sat, Apr 5 2003, 8:58pm
Blood Money - Collect Your Blood Money
A document bearing the address "Head Quarters, Dublin", names the seven members of the IRA's ruling army council and the nine members of its general headquarters (GHQ) staff. The list confirms that the organisation is dominated by Gerry Adams, the Sinn Fein president, and his allies.
Sinn Fein members on the council include Adams, the West Belfast MP, and Martin McGuinness, the MP for Mid Ulster who was also the Northern Ireland education minister.
The other Sinn Fein members are Martin Ferris TD,a fourth man who cannot be named and the chief of staff and head of the IRA is Thomas "Slab" Murphy, a millionaire racketeer and smuggler from south Armagh who was instrumental in bringing about the 1994 ceasefire and then planning the London Docklands bombing which broke it.
The IRA's assistant chief of staff is Brian Keenan, an Adams supporter and veteran bomber who is the IRA representative on General John de Chastelain's independent international commission on decommissioning (IICD). At his last IICD meeting Keenan said that in the correct circumstances the IRA was committed to putting its arms beyond use.
The seventh council member is Brian Gillen, 31, an Adams appointee from Belfast who has been jailed for arms and explosives offences.
Below the council members are nine GHQ staff members, most of whom took the places of better-known members who left the IRA during ceasefires. The key figure is Martin Lynch, 51, the adjutant-general, who has day-to-day control of the IRA. Last year a car used by Lynch, which took Adams and McGuinness to meetings with the IRA, was found to contain an MI5 bugging device.
The head of engineering responsible for weapons and explosives is Bernard Fox, one of the 1981 hunger strikers and regarded as close to Adams. IRA intelligence is directed by Bobby Storey, who has been jailed on arms charges.
The finance director responsible for organising robbery and racketeering is Patrick Thompson, 47, who was jailed in 1977 for murdering four soldiers.
Pat Doherty was born in Glasgow and is a former Donegal resident, he is also known by the nickname of "Papa Doc". His brother Hugh was part of the IRA Balcombe Street gang. Today he is Vice President of Sinn Fein. Danny Morrison

MI5 supply this document by any chance?
by Jams - eire nua Sat, Apr 5 2003, 9:55pm
So was this document supplied by a "security source" aka MI5 or an article in the Oirish Sunday Times or similar rag like the Indo?
Regardless of where it came from whats your point Richard Waghorn if thats your real name?
We all know of the IRA history and involvement of some Sinn Fein members in that orginisation. Its common knowledge that Martin Ferris is a former IRA leader, he doesnt deny it either. So what???
I vote for Sinn Fein and have no illusions about the past history, they are no angels but no other party in the 6 counties strife has bloodless hands either. So come down off your not so high moral ground and when you have something new or interesting to tell us, please do so by all means.
Adams treats SF voters with contempt
by X-Sinn Fein Voter Sat, Apr 5 2003, 7:29pm
By welcoming the Bush visit to Belfast Gerry Adams is condoning the murder of innocent Iraqis. Gerry as my M.P you are not acting in my name, and by meeting the Butchers of Washington and London you are dragging the Republican movement to depths of hypocrisy which until now have only being reach by the DUP. As for the SDLP, Mark Durkan says “ I cannot disguise my personal unhappiness at this, give my own opposition to this war” talk is cheap, don’t meet Bush, SF have sold their integrity cheap, don’t sell the SDLP’s as cheaply they have sold republicans,I have never voted SDLP in my life but if the SDLP refuse to meet Bush I and my family will.

Gerry don't do it
by Bernadette mary Sat, Apr 5 2003, 7:37pm
I have to say me too, as a sinn fein voter I am disgusted Gerry would meet these war criminals and butchers, in America nevermind welcome them to our country?. The likes of Bush is similar to Pinochet, Bush sponsors mayhem and murder in latin america.

A trap
by el pussycat Sat, Apr 5 2003, 7:42pm
You can understand the likes of Bertie meeting filth like Blair and bush, but if Gerry associates with these right wing warmongers, and is seen to welcome them into our country, it may tarnish Gerry's impecable credentials and integrity.

cynical posturing on IAWM

Because there are votes to be had by being anti the war in Iraq, SF are just as cynical about this as is Des Geraghty and Labour.
Boycott call from Kerry RSF
by Ailin Sat, Apr 5 2003, 4:24pm
A call has been made on the Kerry Provo TD Martin Ferris to boycott the visit of US President George Bush to Ireland over spearheading the war in Iraq by the local branch of Republican Sinn Féin.
RSF spokesman in North Kerry, John O'Shea from Ballylongford said that the Provisional Sinn Féin party oppose the war in Iraq so they must also oppose those who lead the war.
"The Provos say they are against the war - they have been very vocal about it and now they have the chance to prove their sincerity by not meeting the American president," said Mr.O'Shea.
"However we shall see if the Provos are a principled party - we shall see if the embrace the man who launched this war - and the man who presides over appalling civilian casualties and loss of innocent life.
"The Provos cannot fly two flags - they cannot be against the war and and the same time give support to the war effort by meeting with and welcoming the man who is in charge of the war.
"Now is the time for Deputy Ferris to take a principled stand on this issue - now is the time for him to show the people of Kerry that his party is a sincere and genuine party working for peace. He can take a stand by refusing to meet the US President and by calling on his party leader to boycott the meeting in protest.
"However principles are not the strong point of the Provos and we in Republican Sinn Féin will not be holding our breath on this occasion. Their history of sell out indicates that Deputy Ferris and his Provo friends will not only welcome the US President to Ireland but will actively embrace his policies to the detriment of the people of Iraq."

A cead mile failte to Dubya
by Justa Moron - Sinn Fail Sat, Apr 5 2003, 4:36pm
The begrudgers are at it again. Adams' strategy in networking with key players in conservative America, such as Thatcherite Peter King, is now paying off in the visit of President Bush, Commander-in-Chief of the US Armed Forces. For the President to take time off from his very business schedule when his troops are trying to liberate Iraq from the dictator, to visit this island is a great tribute to Adams' peace process stategy. Bush will put pressure on Ahern and Blair to complete the Good Friday Agreement, thus opening a great window of opportunity for peace on this island, North and South. And it is perfectly for Gerry Adams to give a traditional Irish cead mile failte to Dubya, commander-in-chief of the Iraqi liberators.

purpose
by Myrna Sat, Apr 5 2003, 4:39pm
One of the purposes of Bush's visit is to pressure the IRA to complete its surrender process. Another is to showcase the Stormont Agreement as a model for imperial settlement. Ahern and Adams are key collaborators in the Anglo-American imperial plan for Ireland, and to call on them to take an anti-imperial stand is futile.

Bushs real reasons for coming to Ireland
by James McKenna Sat, Apr 5 2003, 6:58pm
(1)Bush needs some propaganda photographs to show to Oirish Americans. One of him and Jerry on the Auld sod would be fine to flash in front of construction workers in Boston and Queens so that they don't stop their children from joining the US army.
(2)It is a handy place to meet Blair. Remember Bertie is only invited for lunch on the second day and I wouldn't be surprised if Bush didn't talk to him at all except outside for photographs.
There is a lot of truth in what Mr O'Shea says and I think the ridicule he received is not fair. Please respond to the points.
Is it not wrong to shake hands with a murderer? Have we not all been forced to accept high standards so that we may shake Mr Bush or Mr Blairs hands ? So should they not also play by the same rules, or find themselves left alone. It enough of an insult these barbarians have a legal claim on this land thanks to the good frinday agreement and believe they have a right to discuss plunder and invasion here.
Mr Adams should not forget that the very angry Irish people who VOTE for Sinn Fein are not stupid and their votes should not be taken for granted. The Oirish American dollars are great but if them people think theis war is right we need to educate them and not pander to them for the money. As great as they are they can't put the "x" on the voting paper in West Belfast or West Cork.
The British and US administrations are the sworn enemies of the Irish people and I trust that the leadership of Sinn Fein will not be fooled. I certainly hope not. That said, we have marched without Sinn Fein before at Shannon and elsewhere when real politic for them meant expedient capitulation , and we may well have to do so again. Such is the reality party politics.
This struggle to stop war is above party politics and it will not stop .
Sinn Fein / IRA are scum. That's my point. Also I've no connection with any British - Irish / News paper or security agency etc. Though I expect those attacking me are connected with an army / rabble of sorts.
Good Day Mr. IRA Scum.
Against the wishes of the vast majority of Irish people? Simple enough question. Who exactly do you speak for? UCD Student's Union - personal capacity or as an official voice? Are you a member of a political party Richard R. Waghorn? You should clarify these to people.
They did not participate in saturday weeks large protest using the feeble excuse that their entire support base was in the RDS! They were not too prominent outside Leinster house on wednesday evening, and their TD's certainly were not carried off the scene by the cops unlike Joe Higgins.
interesting to see that the supposed left wing in Ireland have taken to reporting as fact stories from Rupert Murdochs Sunday Times re the alleged membership of the IRA Army Council. Funny how when it suits your own agenda you will take your cue from the right wing media. Anti globalistion activists and right wing corporations make strange bedfellows indeed.
I believe it is my right to voice my views, are you questioning my right to free speech? As for my back ground - why don't you let us know who you are first? I've given my name & a contact address what's yours?
sorry for delay in replying, i generally take a break from indy at weekends. too busy with non-virtual actions.
yes, i do think SF are wrong to meet with Bush & Blair at this time.
This gives Bush & Blair an opportunity to present themselves as peacemakers. SF could have disrupterd this by refusing to attend the meeting. In those circumstances the SDLP would also have been embarassed into a boycott.
at present the abscence of the DUP from the talks would merely have turned it into The Tempest without Caliban; but a SF snub would make it Hamlet without the Prince.
I appreciate that SF will be protesting outside and giving a letter of protest inside; but they are handing a propaganda coup to BUsh & Blair.
They will be presented to the World Media as Peacemakers.
No idea if any of the people named hold the positions alleged. But one thing needs to clarified.
Slab is certainly not a "Millionaire Smuggler".
He may well (allegedly) have raised millions for the Republican Movement through smuggling activities.
Will Pat please make his opinions known on the donations detailed above. In my opinion, I've no problem with a party getting donations off their members, including substantial dontations from salary of their TDs, MPs, etc.
However to get donations off US big business is particularly sick in SF's case as they claim to be anti-imperialist. These companies are the people who have funded Buch et al, they are the people togain from the war on Iraq.
Pat C will you please comment.
if sf can con big business into giving them donations then more power to them.
but i think the truth of the matter is that the donations are collected in much smaller amounts.
gee, do i detect some envy on the part of some people?
Justin
Seeing as my opinion on SF matters is so much in demand perhaps you give me a column in An Phoblacht?
Normal NUJ freelance rates natctch.
Pat
For those that are interested Richard R. Waghorn is John Harvey of Fine Gael and chair of UCD students union council. He was recently defeated by a Sp member in his bid to become the next education officer and has been very bitter about it. He recently also discovered indymedia and has been attempting to piss off a few lefties without much success. Our mate John has also recently founded the UCD Pro Liberation Society with the rest of YFG and a few members of FF. With this YFG cover group he has been trying to annoy the UCD left again without much success. There has also been rumours that Mr Harvey allowed ballot boxes to be stuffed in the recent SU exec elections while a polling clerk, this allowed the right maintain a majority on the exec by winning the closet race by a handfull of votes.
I see he has claimed that we are surpressing his freedom of speech! What rubbish! I have no problem with him making a fool out of himself by publicly supporting the war. Remember John it was you and your ilk that has always traditionally tried to supress the freedom of speech of the left on demonstrations by banning us distributing leaflets and papers etc.
Why dont you just give up Harvey. You lost the election. You were exposed that it's you behind the "Max Dempsey" postings. You are just digging a larger and deeper pit of dispair for yourself
BTW
Max Dempsey is a correspondent in the Farmer's Journal, a publication that John Harvey appeared in as a "young blood" of FG. Bet they didn't mention you were beaten by a Trotskyist in the election!!
Does anyone have the tour schedule for Gerry Adams for St Patricks. Where will he be in the Midwest this week?
do you switch on your TV and see them presented as peace makers?
Do you tune in to the BBC and see them presented as peace makers?
Maybe I am too far away and irrelevant to RTE land, maybe there they are cheesemakers still.
Pat C, that shakespearian analogy makes me smile, thank you. Again. Stand tall, there are many who will replace you if ever you go.
