Bush to visit NI next week

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday April 04, 2003 20:11author by Sparks Report this post to the editors

Hmmmm.

April 4, 2003
(18:53) The US President, George Bush, is to visit Northern Ireland on Monday and Tuesday to discuss the situation in Iraq and the peace processes in Northern Ireland and the Middle East.
According to officials at Downing Street, Mr Bush will have talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.
A spokesperson for the Irish Government has said the US had played a vital role in advancing the peace process in recent years, and the engagement of President Bush at this key moment was a clear reflection of the continued commitment of the administration.
It is understood Tony Blair and President Bush will discuss Iraq on Tuesday morning, before being joined at noon by the Taoiseach.
The three leaders will have a brief discussion, before chairing a round-table meeting of all the pro-agreement parties in the North.
President Bush is expected to have left the North by mid-afternoon.
The meeting is in advance of Thursday's session at which the British and Irish governments are expected to unveil their proposals for restoring the Good Friday institutions.

One has to wonder if Bertie will maintain his "The UN must be in charge of Iraq" stance at that meeting.

I personally wonder how big a protest will take place...

Don’t wonder, start organizing!

SF have always posed themselves as being against this imperialist war. Well will they now mobilse theri considerable membership and support base in the North to protestt at this summit? The leadership should also protest against this war by refusing to deal with Bush.

Let all Ireland, North and South, rise in protest against the imperial massacre in Iraq and against imperial attempts to solve the Irish problem. Their solution is to integrate all of Ireland into the Anglo-American empire. For Adams to meet with the US commander-in-chief, Bush, at this time clearly shows that the provisional movement is no longer an anti-imperial force and that the Good Friday agreement is an imperial attempt to assimilate all Ireland into the empire.
Anglo-America out of Iraq! Anglo-America out of Ireland!

..., it is a test of everybody's anti-war credentials. Every media eye on the plantet will be on this meeting. The size and strength of the opposition to it will send a loud and clear message to the world.

There needs to be a protest at the airport as Bush lands, at his hotel and where the meetings take place (presumably Stormont) We need to let Bush know that he is not welcome in this country! He can have no part in the peace process as long as he is engaging in the destruction of the planet

If any of you were allowed out of the asylum when Clin-tonne was here you will know that you wont get within 10 miles of Bush, apart from waving at his USAF aircraft as it lands in NI.

Now is the time to ORGANISE..You have less than 48 hours to get it together, this may be the only real chance you get to protest against the war to the one individual, apart from SadMan who has the power to stop it.

A warning tho..if you think kildare street was rough..consider the might of the PSNI,which is made oup of mostly EX RUC types, not known for their respect for civil rights,or southern irish people for that matter, and the Secret police to beat all secter Police,Georgies Secret Service Bodyguard army, who no doubt already have an advance party preparing the route.

GO! Make a stand..Now is the time to be a martyr for the struggle..but dont do it from dublin,or shannon. A United protest is the only way. Token protests for those who cant be bothered mobilising outside their local petrol station isnt going to be noticed by Dubya.

Sadly I must work for a US multinational myself..but food on my table comes before all else.

Interesting the lack of SF response, they are normally so quick to respond to criticism etc.

A tough choice for Gerry. Does he boycott, refuse to shake hands, wear a peace badge/sticker?

Whats it going to be?

But i think we all know!
