This morning (June 16th) sometime before 9am Shell workers again attempted to enter private lands in Rossport , Co. Mayo, as part of their preparation work for the Corrib upstream pipeline development (this was also attempted yesterday afternoon, details to follow later). Permission from the Corduff and McGrath families, on whose lands the Shell were attempting to work , was not given. in the face of physical intimidation. The Gardai were called to the scene, and were forced to transport Mary Corduff to seek medical attention due to the stress of the situation. The Corduffs have in the last few moments returned from the doctor in Belmullet (20 odd miles away) and the situation has yet to be resolved on the ground today. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Dublin City Council were given leave by Dublin Circuit Court to test the validity of Bin Charges in the Supreme Court. This throws the whole issue into the air again. The Council will not be able to bring any more non-payers to court until the case is heard, which may take up to a year. It also means that it will be very difficult for the Council to implement non-collection (which still has'nt happened in most parts of Dublin, despite all the huffing and puffing by the Council)given the question mark over the arrears. Here are the results of votes, that is to say the % of the electorate who were registered to vote who did so, province by province. Using this list, we can quickly & promptly identify those provinces where blue flag beaches and a kicking good mass count for more than new fangled notions on the high-tech chicken baster designer kids for infertile people market. The Pope is delighted. We can now see that the real trouble makers are concentrated in the north west and Tuscany where Mr Blair goes on holidays around Bologna and Florence. The Italians will now move progressively, to banning condoms, outlawing orgasms, herding up preverted types [sic], adopting african kids, & of course attending marches organised by the Spanish rightwing. BUT of course they won't relax, it doesn't really make much of a difference. It is now not only cool to "not vote" its HOLY. @.:.%+*$/€ ... read full story / add a comment

In January of this year, communities in Swords and Dublin 15 were celebrating the success of Socialist Party motions, that secured a green belt zoning on hundreds of acres of land, which had been targeted for residential development. At the end of May, the Development Plan changes had to be ratified by the Councillors. However in a disgusting move, Sinn Fein sided with Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to overturn the decision for 140 acres in Swords and restore the residential zonings. Their Councillor did not participate in any of the discussions during the months of meetings on this plan and yet it was with that one vote that all the campaigning of the community was betrayed. ... read full story / add a comment
