My article is about the worldwide spread (including to Ireland) of a new form of potentially dangerous type of psychotherapy. It has reached Ireland from Germany via the UK where it is already a huge business. The new development is that followers of this semi-cult want to apply it to politics and other social areas. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

An Irish Times editorial on May 1st laid out the various options open to the UN Security council for dealing with Iran’s nuclear threat. These options ranged "from a solemn statement warning Iran to comply to consideration of sanctions or military force under Chapter VII of the UN Charter." The paper of record nailed its colours to the mast by favouring negotiations and UN action while declaring that "military action by the US outside UN auspices would be a dangerous folly." ... read full story / add a comment

Born after the success of a Summer Craft Fair in Bealkelly Wood, the first weekend of traditional craft courses took place under a few hastily hoisted tarps between the trees in the wet Autumn of 2002. It was booked out. Since then, the event has gone from strength to strength and the workshop infrastructure along with it, so much so that the little 'Village in the Woods' looks like a scene out of an Asterix comic. Weekends in the woods take place three times a year in Spring, Summer and Autumn at the invitation of host Del Harding in his woodland home on the shores of Lough Derg. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

AN animal welfare charity that rehomes abandoned greyhounds for Bord na gCon has been told to pick up a huge tab after the board said it has no more money to give them. Gina Hetherington of PAWS in Sallins, Co Kildare, says she has been left reeling by the news that the Irish Greyhound Board's 2006 fund for retired dogs, which stands at €250,000, is apparently gone - despite being just four months into the year. The charity, which rescues abandoned greyhounds from pounds, may now have to find up to €145,000 to cover veterinary bills, kennel boarding fees and transport costs or else leave the unwanted dogs to their grisly fate. ... read full story / add a comment

On Thursday may 11th at 11.30 am four antimilitarist activists will be on trial for a military train blockade in fall 2004. The public prosecutor asks for a sentence of one year’s imprisonment, while the activist’s lawyer pleads for acquittal. The trial has been postponed already two times, the last one because of the absence of the witnesses (4 policemen) for the prosecution without giving any reason. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

An American F-14 tomcat tail fin was discovered washed up on an Irish Beach on friday this week. The fin was in very good condition which suggests it has only been in the water for a few weeks or months. The U.S. navy denies losing any planes in the region or any tail fins, so this begs the question, where did it come from? What are the U.S. military covering up? ... read full story / add a comment |
