Gerald Ford, the first of two unelected leaders of the US (George W Bush was the second) has died.

On a bright sunny Christmas morning, the festive community of Yeppoon on the Central Queensland coast of Australia arose to greet their day in joy and gladness, opening presents and family time together. Not so for many homes across this nation and indeed across the world as the reminders of missing loved ones taken in the grip of war that has ripped a gaping wound in the hearts of hundreds and thousands of families this Advent season. I sat alone in a peace vigil where I boycotted Christmas and Boxing day to remember those families, and those serving in this war-madness or in gaols. ... read full story / add a comment

Rather than head off to their respective homes for the Xmas break, a group of out of town activists based in Galway procrastinated the sweet inevitable for a day in order to bear witness to suffering Palestine.

An information table was manned outside Lynch's castle,Shop st, where flyers on Israel's Apartheid Wall were handed out to passing pedestrians. The peak experience of the day was Khaled from Palestine, chancing upon us and visiting serious heartening appreciation on our efforts after joining us for the remainder of our five hour stint. ... read full story / add a comment

It was a great night had by all, and more importantly a lot of money was raised (over 2000 euro) for the Prisoners dependents. Former INLA POW and member of the Ard Comhairle Gerard Forward from the Short Strand in Belfast gave the main speech. Gerard gave a well received rousing speech as well as a standing ovation. Soon afterwards a representatives of Dublin Brigade INLA read out a speech which included the condeming of those criminal elements (who are not and never where members of the Republican Socialist Movement) who use the name of the INLA to line there pockets. The representative stated that Dublin INLA had a list of names of these parasites and that a number of them had been forcibly warned to desist from there activities or face serious concequences. He stated that members of Dublin INLA were not criminals and that they would not be detered by the "no proof media sensationalists, who operate to a securicrat agenda. ... read full story / add a comment

9 states globally have enacted laws which allow their courts put to trial those accused of genocide. Accordingly June 2003 Spanish Judge Baltasar Garzón jailed Ricardo Miguel Cavallo, (also known as Miguel Angel Cavallo), a former Argentine naval officer, extradited from Mexico to Spain pending his trial on charges of genocide and terrorism relating to the years of Argentina's military dictatorship (1976 to 1983) in which over 9,000 Argentinians and as many as 30,000 disappeared.
Today the Spanish courts ruled that Cavallo may better tried in Argentina. As a result, as of this morning the Argentinian state has 40 days to get their extradition process & papers in order. ... read full story / add a comment
