The Greens and their allies remind me of another globally ambitious movement with committed cadres: Communists. And like the Reds in their day, the "Green-Grays" are inspired by visions of a better world. If the free traders are to resist such a coup, they must study the tactics of the anti-traders. ... read full story / add a comment

It has been long observed that people for some reason on their non-banking days readily absorb shite about Dangerous Places, Famous People, Sensible Saving Options, Holidays, Interesting facts, Sport results, Media, gardening and health as well looking ahead at “upcoming issues” including September 11.
This therefore Concerns the same conceptual textual space that weekly produces “I really can’t think of anything newsworty to write” stuff from me. But I do not feel ashamed of nor dissuaged from writing a Sunday article unhindered by petty concerns for how difficult it is to be an editor, a worker, or reader reconciling split infinitives. ... read full story / add a comment

The Refugee Question
Critics of Israel from the moderate (my former position) to the most extreme portray it as an example of colonialism: European settlers push out the native population turning them into homeless refugees. And sure, they say, those Europeans were themselves victims of genocide, but do two wrongs make a right?

There are two problems with this view. First, it incorrectly portrays the makeup of the people who constitute most of the Jewish population in Israel. And second, it incorrectly describes the causes and nature of the Palestinian refugee problem.

We will deal with these points in the following two sections.

Is Israel a European “Settler State”?
That is the commonly held view, but the truth is quite different. ... read full story / add a comment
