Simply we can describe the situation of the Gaza Strip as the worst of its kind since the Israeli occupation of Palestine in 1948, if you walk the streets of Gaza city you will be shocked seeing how miserable and harsh life the people of Gaza are facing, as a result of the Israeli daily aggressions and sever measures. ... read full story / add a comment

The purpose of this article (see below the video) is to provide further support to the statement upheld by politicians, academic and legal experts that the Lisbon Treaty is a constitution. The emphasis on this fact is vital because from this fact it follows that the Lisbon Treaty needs referendum not only in Ireland but in all of the 27 EU member states. Because the Lisbon Treaty a constitution, it is crucial to understand that no constitution ever permits the act of overthrowing it, i.e never allows the act of replacing it with another one without the permission of a country's citizens. Therefore the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty without referendums in the other 26 states, is a dictatorial power-grab over Europe. (Please see the document referred at the end of the article.) With this article we wish to call Ireland to Vote NO to Lisbon Treaty! Vote NO to a constitution that establishes a dictatorial federal regime with powers over all Europe. ... read full story / add a comment

This is a brief link to the Irish Safe and Legal campaign, who have linked to the Pro-choice Majority Campaign in Britain in relation to the attempt through legislation to reduce the Upper Abortion Limit, as part of the HFEB Bill . On May the Seventh 2008, the Houses in the UK will vote on a divisive Bill which has actively left women's rights and NGO groups out of the equation in relation to Choice and Healthcare issues. http://www.safeandlegal.blogspot.com The HFEB is called the Human Fertilisation and Embrology Bill. By creating a provincial parliament for the nine counties of Ulster, within the framework of a new Ireland the partition system would be disestablished and the problem of the border removed. The Protestant people of Ulster would have a working majority and would have immediate access to power. Furthermore, the devolution of power to the local level would ensure for each community the opportunity to foster its own traditions and culture. Each region and community would have within itself the immediate power to deal with its own social and economic problems. Such devolution of power from one central authority to the people is the essence of democracy. The Nationalist population would be of sufficient strength to ensure a strong and credible opposition within reach of power. For the first time in fifty years we would see a normalization of politics with an end to the domination of one community by another and the resultant frustration and conflict. ... read full story / add a comment

The following is a statement by the Communist Party of Iran (MLM). It was written before Mahmoud was released. The statement is not available elsewhere online in English. It is preceded by a commentary from A World to Win News Service. Drew WPRM http://www.wprm.org/ At a time when the US is threatening to attack Iran and is posing as the “liberator” of the Iranian people, Mahmood took a clear position against both U.S. imperialist war and the IRI and has refused to call for “national reconciliation” with the Islamic regime. ... read full story / add a comment

On a day when the UN released a report that 70% of women suffer poverty and only own 1% of the world's titled land, which is a common inheritance of all people I decided to look at media coverage of the issues. The Irish Times had the report in small paragraph without title or reference to the committee release. And I could not find it elsewhere. Addressing the root cause of women's poverty is not a simple prospect, afterall, National Governments do not listen to women. If they did they would hear what they say to me everyday... ... read full story / add a comment

Twenty ten is the date the HSE say a Cystic Fibrosis unit will be built. Proudly they boast of “fast-tracking” this process to deliver the care that has being so desperately needed for years. This “spin” is never more quickly put into perspective than when a mother or father, brother or sister weep and stare at tossed soil which is beginning to settle where their loved one lays. Peacefully, yet cold, with the colours of nature and heart broken messages of love and memories at any of the thirty graves. ... read full story / add a comment

The upcoming referendum for the Treaty of Lisbon, only voted for by the people of Ireland will determine the future of all European member states. The Treaty is basically a redraft of the EU Treaty rejected by the people of France and Holland, although the majority of political partys where campaigning for a Yes vote in both countries. The Treaty of Lisbon will passed now in France and Holland and all other member states without ratification. Well Ireland gets to vote and the majority of political partys are urging people to Vote Yes... ... read full story / add a comment

Pat Lawlor, Nursing Convenor at the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast is currently 'under investigation' by the National Executive of UNISON. Pat's alleged 'crime' is that he spoke out in support of striking classroom assistants and for daring to criticise the actions of the leadership of UNISON. During the classroom assistants strike, Pat did what any decent trade unionist should have done - publicly supported workers on strike. The regional leadership of UNISON refused to do so. Their actions actually undermined the classroom assistants pay and conditions. Because Pat chose to express solidarity with workers in struggle, he now faces disciplinary action being taken against him. He may even be expelled from UNISON. ... read full story / add a comment

Statement regarding Dublin Zoo Orangutan escape. The Alliance for Animal Rights (AFAR) is saddened by hearing of the Oranutan Maggie's bid to find freedom yesterday even to the point of leaving her baby ' The understandably frustrated animal has been confined in an enclosure for 24 years, more than the length of a sentence that would be imposed on a human for the crime of murder. Zoos are but Prisons to non human animals, yet they have not committed any crime. Those in captivity are driven insane, deprived of a natural life and are basically kept imprisoned for life so that our species can amuse themselves. ... read full story / add a comment

It's amazing that an active politician, albeit of the right, has found himself in the privileged position of both funding and financing a hate crime movie. The man know the laws of his country and is an elected official thus we can all presume that the only reason that he made it was for ego-indulgence. Lots of politicos do that- its called abuse of office. How far we have come from being privileged to study the word and poetry of Islam? Sufism provided many international writers with an area of study and cross-cultural pollination that has benefited Western art and literature in the poetry of Hughes and the writing of Lessing , to name two. Westergaard got an injunction to have his image removed- it was opposed to fanaticism, not Islam. http://www.nrc.nl/international/article1032015.ece/Wild...ction http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7310439.stm ... read full story / add a comment
