Some students from the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa are buying permits and retiring them, to eliminate tons sulfur dioxide and CO2 from being released into the atmosphere. read full story / add a comment

Mary 'In Bed with IBEC' Harney has confirmed that the World Economic Forum will host a conference on "competitiveness" in Dublin this October. The junket will be attended by our esteemed masters (politicians, academics, business leaders) and will no doubt help the formulation of policies to expand neoliberalist free trade policies across the globe. The unstated aim of the WEF is to protect the New World Order and legitimise the pillage of impoverished developing nations. read full story / add a comment

BERLIN Jan. 22 — Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has made plain that Germany will refuse to back an Iraq war resolution in the U.N. Security Council, ending weeks of hedging and aligning himself more closely with his main European partner, France. Schroeder's clearest position yet is likely to further displease President Bush, who this week scolded countries like Germany that are seeking more time for U.N. weapons inspectors to search in Iraq. read full story / add a comment

John McAllion is one of the few outspoken MSP's (Member of the Scottish Parliament) left in the Labour Party. He has voted against the leadership on a whole number of issues from the war preparations on Iraq to oppostion to privatisation and for the abolition to Warrant Sales in Scotland. Increasingly isolated in the Labour Party, John McAllion spoke to the International Socialist on his views on a potential war in Iraq and the state of the Labour Party. read full story / add a comment
