news report
Wednesday January 22, 2003 20:26 by Excited Anarchist
Mary 'In Bed with IBEC' Harney has confirmed that the World Economic Forum will host a conference on "competitiveness" in Dublin this October. The junket will be attended by our esteemed masters (politicians, academics, business leaders) and will no doubt help the formulation of policies to expand neoliberalist free trade policies across the globe. The unstated aim of the WEF is to protect the New World Order and legitimise the pillage of impoverished developing nations. I propose that we do everything in our power to disrupt and frustrate this sick joke of a conference. Firstly, every anti-capitalist group in the world must be invited to Dublin in October. They will need support and accommodation from activists in Ireland. This will take time to organise. Secondly, we should establish an alternative conference, educating the people of Dublin about the true aims of the WEF and the left's proposed alternatives. The city should be swamped with leaflets highlighting Bertie and Mary's support for the immoral plunder of the world's resources. Thirdly, our aim should be to prevent the conference going ahead. This will need direct action, which, in turn, will need to be pre-planned. We have nine months. Let's get going...

I want to believe it as it will provide a major focus for the disgruntled members of our society who include not only lefties and anarchists but fishermen, farmers, community workers, teachers, students, trade unionists, environmentalists, health workers, health patients, small businesspeople and a whole bunch more.
We need to outreach to all groups and explain who the WEF are, what they stand for and how they affect us and especially the poorer countries.
We need protests, forums, seminars, rallies from Derry to Kerry, leaflets, press releases, websites, newsgroups, car stickers, zines, magazines, radio releases, music, dances, fundraisers, volunteers, affinity groups, thinking, planning, training, organising, confrontation, direct action, mobilisation against WAR, GREED, POVERTY, ENVIRONMENTAL DEVASTATION, CAPITALISM MAYHEM...........
This affects all of us.
Bertie, Mary, Blair and Bush - the Irish people are awakening!!!! BE WARNED!!!!!!!!!!
im tempted to quote Wolfie Smith here.. (looks to the sky) "you know what this means? The Glorious Day is upon us!"
is it just the strong painkiller i took or did they pick the wrong country, wrong time, wrong year for this? or is married to the mob harney just tryin to rub the salt in the wounds of the workers. lets face it by october this country, if not in recesssssssion will be damn near it. there will be a lot of angry people. and a lot of confused coppers. perhaps we should use the millenium spike as a battering ram?? just an idea...
Hello ye Paddies!
Being swiss, I'm preparing for Saturdays Wipe out WEF event in Davos, Switzerland.
I've been surfing around though and read this on an online edition of an austrian newspaper. Forget the link, I'd have to look for it again...
However, you can get the link on indymedia.at
Dublin is going to serve as a surrogate host. The WEF doesn't feel comfortable anymore in Salzburg, I guess the demos are starting to pay off.
We have a similar situation in Davos. The security is so high that the whole town of Davos has been turned into a fortress. A mass demonstration is expected. There is a lot of controversy between the demo coordinators, the police, state officials and politicians about a check point half way between the lowlands and Davos, which is situated up in the mountains. At this check point, demonstrators are supposed to exit the train or coach and pass through a fenced security section where they will be searched and identified by police and the military. Both sides are arguing in the press and nobody is quite sure where the demonstration will take place, as demonstrators have vowed not to have any searches or identity checks performed on them. The public discussion is not about the WEF or about the horrible things the participants represent, but about the level of security and whether the demonstration will turn violent.
In the past weeks and days, there have been many incidents of sabotage, border protests, occupied buildings of companies and authorities and a "welcoming" for the WEF-participants at the Zurich Airport. After several demonstrations over the last years (the first protest was held in 1991), the need for explanation is not necessary anymore, as a majority of the population already know "which side they're on". If things get nasty on Saturday, this may well be the last WEF in Davos.
Now your capitol is hosting this wonderful event, I suggest you make the most of it and educate the public as one reader above already suggested. It is essential to give the WEF the hardest time possible, by being creative and persistent. Show them that our resistance is global and that they are not welcome anywhere, anytime. Much like radioactive waste.
Good luck!
Congrats To You All,
Now we expect big things from you all. The Irish have a reputation for fighting imperialism, so keep up the good work. Heck, I might even try to visit me wee family in da auld sod, shoire and begeesus. LOLOL.. OMG did i just do that?. Seriously, if i do go i would love to meet up with some of you all. Including shaking hands with Eoin. Oh and some of the Greens and the Shinners........
"Paddy" is an ethnic slur. Don't you cawbogues know that? Or are you just trying to insult the Irish people rather than display your ignorance?
""Paddy" is an ethnic slur" is a jugemental imperialist slur used to undermine class solidarity and promote neoliberal social values to the proles thereby undermining the latent anarcho-syndacalist commune emerging amongst the urban disaffected.
Wise up tosser
Paddy is a slur if used in a slurring manner. Otherwise it is just a commonly used term for Irish people, most used by the paddies themselves (me included). The WEF is a bigger slur, a curse on all our houses.
Bring it on!
So are they coming or are they not? Perhaps it has not been decided.
I can see no proof as yet.
1. don´t panic
2. make up the black list.
yes it´s
Shengin
shenanigans!
Ireland has about 3000-5000 regular protesters.
Europe has a mobile horde of about 10,000 very good protesters.
Dublin being the easy enough place to get to will easily attract 10,000-15,000 people.
Any "top notch" hypercapitalist shin-dig will bring about 10,000 people mostly young and intellectual types to your city.
This is very good for your "spin-off" economy.
=Be nice to these people.
Some of these people are considered to be
"very dangerous".
Some of these people are considered to be
"pretty heavyweight".
Some of these people are considered to be
"personae non grata".
Border controls will start about two weeks before the gig.
/No matter we mostly arrive and enter the woodwork long before that.
There will be a long list "the blacklist" distributed between Irish Gardaí and British Custom and Excise to stop some people arriving.
These people are the
"HANDLE WITH CARE" bunch.
You´ll love the "HANDLE WITH CARE" Bunch.
=(You already do)
Now we will worry about how to get into the Irish state.
You ought to worry about the publicity campaigns.
You will need lots.
= Start now.
No city has found itself in the position of saying "pity we prepared that anti-hyper-capitalist campaign and they didn´t show up".
No that doesn´t happen.
Remember the Gardaí will get very freaked.
and very equiped.
So let´s make this clear.
The Gardaí are not the enemy.
If Dublin is to play host to a non-elected institution which forms an integral part of the non-democratic world, then democratic protesters will disrupt the workings of that institution.
It really is very simple.
We will it might be worth considering out-number the Gardaí Siochana.
=So think about being nice to them for a few days.
(they really will be very freaked).
And get your IT side together.
The mobile emergency response unit deals in megabtes and stuff and is very very good at its job.
And start making sandwiches we get very hungry.
And you´ll need to figure out somewhere for us to sleep.
We don´t like the capitalist "spin off" effect of booking on masse into the hotels and guesthouses.
The World Economic
Forum is an independent
international organization committed to improving
the state of the world.
The Forum provides
a collaborative framework
for the world's leaders
to address global issues,
engaging particularly
its corporate members
in global citizenship.
It is a forum which extends the idea of the corporation as alternative state/national structure.
·Corporations are not people.
·they do not have rights.
Giving them rights affords them notional protection that have not been extended to most humans. It gives their law departments extra teeth to fight the toothless.
Giving them rights means that their employees from casual to director with all that perverted intelligence and all those budget $/€ go to defending corporate decisions wrongdoing and ambition.

Dublin to host Euro summit
22/01/2003 - 18:20:17
The Government is to host Europe’s first competitiveness summit in Dublin later this year.
Tanaiste Mary Harney confirmed tonight that the conference would go ahead in October following her government’s agreement to the move after an approach from the Geneva-based World Economic Forum.
She said the meeting would bring together European Union and United States leaders from the political, business and academic worlds.
Ms Harney added “The summit will bring a welcome focus to the competitiveness agenda in advance of Ireland’s EU presidency in 2004.
“A strong focus will also be placed on the issues of social inclusion and corporate social responsibility. This forum will have the capacity to influence change and drive the reforms needed to build competitiveness and greater social inclusion in the EU.”
Still NO evidence,
waiting in anticipation!!!
Oh Harney, oh Bertie, Oh Bush your economical, ecological terrorism......... how I wish to show you what I think!
Austria worried them? Well Irish has one hundred thousand more welcomes to offer!!

http://www.weforum.org/
members of the wef, may not share your particular world view, get over it, these people at least are in a position to implement when and if they find common ground.
capitalism is not piracy -
how many people read wef's info before rushing to the barricades.
enjoy the dramatics but for god's sake allow the grown ups to get on with the job at hand
I assume the link that Republican meant to give was
http://breakingnews.iol.ie/news/story.asp?j=40023991&p=4xxz446x&n=40024490
which is the actual story - links to the front page of corporate media sites are Not Much Use...
Donal,
The reason the WEF does not share my world view is that they fully believe in the rights of corporations over individuals.
Now this might sound fine when read on some website or other but what it means is the fundamental trampling of democracy itself.
The 'free' market can no longer be allowed to wreck havoc in the way it does. The current global halocaust of poverty, famine, aids and war has very close corporate ties. Large corporations, most of them WEF members, have roots in slavery, colonialism and exploitation of people, democracy and basic human rights.
Their 'grown up' minds tell them that the ecological health of the planet will be catered for by domestic recycling and carbon trading - whilst 90% of all emissions, pollution and rainforest rape is sourced at the belly of the beast - the corporate profit and loss!
A rainforest goes down, GNP goes up! A 1000 people die of cancer, GNP goes up! A war breaks out, GNP goes up!
Now these 'grown ups' have gone way too far. They are in fact PIRATES. Don't believe me? Go to India and see how Monsanto is patenting and 'inventing' 2000 year old rice varities thereby denying millions the right to their traditions, culture, rights and food. Piracy is exactly what it is and piracy is exacly what the WTO is all about.
I did research the WEF for 3 months before I 'rushed to the barricades' againgst them in 2000 and I intend to do the same again.
Capitalism is killing my planet, affecting my health and suffocating my rights and in particular the rights of the 1/3 of the world who are hungry right now. The WEF set themselves the wonderfully creative remit of 'setting the world's cultural, social and economic agenda'. Now answer me this - WHO THE FUCK TOLD THEM THEY COULD?
The WEF is an unelected body of wealthy elites who formulate global economic policies. It has no democratic mandate.
It promotes and defends the policies of structural adjustment, privatisation and unfettered free trade, all of which have caused untold damage to the global environment and to global society. These policies have only served to widen the gap between rich and poor. In many cases, they have led to food shortages and famines in the developing world, because these countries are pressured into producing cash crops for the west instead of food to meet the basic needs of their people.
You may think it's childish to oppose injustice and a system designed to benefit the wealthy at the expense of the poor. You're entitled to that view. I disagree and have no intention of abandoning my belief in fairness and equality.
Oh, and I also consider myself to be an educated "grown up" who has a good knowledge of the workings of the WEF and its ideological brethern - the IMF, World Bank and WTO. These groups have no morals, no ethics and no democratic mandate, yet they control the global economic system. I will continue to oppose this situation, regardless of what you say.

Also, WEF has more than 1,000 members, the vast majority of them multi-national corporations. These include BP, Exxon, Monsanto, McDonalds, Nike, Nestle, Philip Morris, UNOCAL and others. All of these companies have atrocious records when it comes to human rights and labour rights. (BTW, AIB and Eircom are the only Irish members). Enron was also a member.

...the swp doesnt decided to try and use it for the greatest socialist rag selling bonanza to hit these shores since ink was invented!
so, let's start organising a real alternative to this richy rich shindig yeah?
You Dubs with the local knowledge, could you start thinking about getting this info out to the rest of us. Where will the delegates meet, sleep?
Where are our entry points, escape routes, safe houses, supply routes? Sewers? back alleys? Places to meet, relax, dance, fight? Can you get maps together?
Oh yeah, general request. We need lots of people to get trained in first aid, as well as some good counselling skills. This could be haevy but it could be amazing. Let's start now Dublin AND the rest of the country, red, black, green, pink, yellow, blue and white. We are in this together. Time to COOPERATE.
In 1918, Number 59 Main Road was the home of Danny Fitton, an organ builder. Accused of wife beating, he was "Ran Tanned" by the villagers. They banged drums, kettles, pots and pans, processing around the village singing the Ran Tan rhyme:
"Ran tan tan, ran tan tan; to the sound of this pan.
This is to give notice that Fitton has beaten his
good woman
For what and why? 'Cause she ate when she was hungry
And she drank when she was dry. He beat her, he
beat her indeed
For spending a penny when she had need.
He beat her black, he beat her blue; When Old Nick
gets him
He'll give him his due. Ran tan tan, ran tan tan ...
We'll send him there in his frying pan."
On the last night, they burnt Danny's effigy and the whole process was seemingly legal so long as it was carried out on three consecutive nights. The last recorded Ran Tanning in Lincolnshire was carried out in Scamblesby in 1930.
The SP will set up Youth Against the WEF.
Then they will condemn everyone else for not being radical enough.
Ireland is home to several Organ Builders.
The most comercially succesful is Kenneth Jones of Bray Co. Wicklow.
There is also Derek Verso of the North of Ireland.
Most recent fine Organ Building in Ireland has been done by the Finnish Organ Building company Frobonius.
Organ building combines engineering music and architecture as a skill.
I served my aprenticeship.
1. Don´t Panic.
2. Examine the infrastructure of your host city.
-Barcelona was to play host to the World Bank
2000.
(It cancelled).
Dublin has an airport. -how many seats in?
two ferry ports.- how many protesters in?
access to Rosslare.
Firstly consider the "expensive leaders".
They are the smallest section of the visitors.
hmmm.
We in the 5th have never thought Dublin capable of supporting a World Institution meeting.
Only little side shows can happen there.
How many five star hotels are there in Dublin?
four stars? three stars?
Delegates also stay in Embassy Residences.
hmmm.
Organise yourselves disorganise yourselves for the presence of 25,000.
Food.
Medicines.
Now the interest of civil Irish society are best served by allowing "the Forum"/"The Horde" to meet and talk, thus secure talking venues.
(these ought be slightly bigger than the usual hotel / teachers club room).
Also the interest of civil Irish society is best served by stopping "The Expensive Leaders" from coming. Best to do cancel about two weeks. This ensures upping the profile of Dublin as "alternative agenda" city and reaping the benefits of the visiting "Forum / Horde" with their happy € and avoiding the disruption and negative tourist € of full scale rioting.
Thank you very much.
IT works a treat.
Lovely does it and always did.
You do have a Forum coming though it is not the one of your problem solution starting point.
We are the horde. And we go on hols every year to exchange t-shirts spend some money and feel international be it 4th or 5th greenie white or repentant recalcitrant.
and we are very impressed by ye all there.
But you´re sorely missed by your pals in the horde over here.
Lot's of
"What we've got to do is blah blah and blah"
"Yeah he's right"
I'm tired of great ideas and bullshit spewing nonsense, Irish protests "all mouth and no trousers"
Lets put you're money where your mouth is, who's up to setting up a meeting to start actually y'know doing stuff?
King Mob
-All trousers-
have now included :
Barcelona World Bank 2001
Dublin W€F 2003
organised crime
together we are cracking it.
