Like many others I greatly enjoyed Joan Denise Moriarty's production of The Playboy of the Western World with the Irish National Ballet. It was a lovely combination of quality literature by Synge, unique music by the ever-inventive Chieftains, wonderful classical ballet and creative choreography. Great stuff. The success or otherwise of the late Irish National Ballet Company and the new, exciting Ballet Ireland depends most of all on sound classical ballet training and all the hardship that such dedication demands. "Do we need Ballet Ireland?" Yes we do. read full story / add a comment

This piece is a positive response to all the negative pieces about "hijacking" etc, and why this sort of thing is just playing into the hands of the establishment. In Ireland we need to learn from the example of our friends around the world and get over our petty differences. It also goes into why Indymedia is so important in this situation, and the dangers of getting into bed with the mainstream media, and finally why we need to unite, not fight amongst ourselves. read full story / add a comment

Why did people waste national air-time on this show discussing useless information on the points of who organised the press conference, the demo tomorrow etc.. If there are things to be ironed out by those who are involved since Monday surely the Joe Duffy show is the last place to do this. Methinks they do not want to have to deal with the irate citizens of Dublin who are currently gazing at the Evening Herald in mild disbelief in some areas and with happiness that this kind of brutality (which is usually efficiently swept under the nearest available carpet by the labrynthine and useless cop complaints procedures which exist in Ireland) is now out in the light. By the way do y'all know that the latin City Motto on lampposts all over the city translates as 'Obedient Citizens make a happy city'. read full story / add a comment
