After two days when the first item on the evening TV news was the brutal Gardai attack on a Reclaim the Streets party it was not surprising that thousands joined a rally against police brutality outside Pearse St police station on Thursday night. The protest passed off peacefully despite paranoia from some quarters that there was 'bound to be trouble'. Saturday May 11 is International Boycott Israeli Goods (BIG) day. This is a global initiative, which aims to bring pressure on the Israeli government to 1)end its illegal occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem 2)stop its human rights violations and 3)comply with UN resolutions. We aim to bring awareness to the consumer that the choice of goods purchased can make a difference as it did to South Africa. By boycotting Israeli products and leisure tourism we are also letting the besieged Palestinian people know that they are not forgotten. read full story / add a comment

If anyone is an anarchist and doesn't want to vote don't bother reading this. If you live in Dublin North however and you do want to vote please do. Clare Daly is in the SP and polled 3,000 votes on her last time out. She has a real chance of winning. When I write a screenplay, I start out with an agenda. I decide who my hero is first and who is the villain. Then I fashion scenes to build my dramatic case and make it believable. That is, I believe, exactly what occurred with regard to at least two reporters, Sheila MacVicar of CNN and Tom Miller of the Los Angeles Times, on Tuesday, April 16 in the Jenin refugee camp. read full story / add a comment

Sorry for being a bit late with this news, been away from a computer for a few days. Galways People and Planet event went off without the brutality of the cops thank x. A sunny day brought large crowds to Eyre Square to hear speakers on local, national and International events, to hear music, see a fairy festival and generally enjoy a (late) celebration of May Day. Many young people there. Thanks to everyone that got involved. Thoughts go to all the victims of the cops and good luck with the demo tonight. jc SWP Galway read full story / add a comment
