Mon Aug 14, 2017 19:54 | Dara McHugh | audio report: 100 at protest at police station in Galway national | miscellaneous | news report Thursday May 09, 2002 23:30 by Pgal - FlirtFM boss at frink dot nuigalway dot ie Around 100 people turned out at 8pm this evening to protest over the police actions in dublin on monday. 100 people turned up outside galway's main police station to show solidarity with those assulted in dublin and to call for a police ombudsman. It was peacefull throughout and the atmosphere was upbeat. Everyone there expressed their discust with the gardai and joined in a call for a full investigation and the seting up of an ombudsman. It was mostly young people and different groups from the city were in attendance including the socialist worker party, sinn fein and UCG's ecosoc. The police watched on, but when i approached one for a quote, he looked on with distain and then tried to intimidate me by asking me have i ever been arrested. i responded by asking him the same question, but it was 'no comment' all around. They know the shit has hit the fan but they are waiting to see what happens. here is the audio report: listen in mp3, 4.6 mb: http://frink.nuigalway.ie/~boss/indymedia/protest.mp3 listen in realaudio (real player required): |
