Two members of the radical anti-war Catholic Worker Movement (see www.catholicworker.org) were arrested inside Shannon Airport in the early hours of Good Friday. Jenny Hannon of Dublin and Martin McGowan of Sligo were detained by airport security and police after making their way into the airfield. They had constructed a shrine to the Iraqis slain in the recent U.S. military assault, conducted the Catholic Office of the Dead and began to plant a bed of potatoes. By 3.45am they were still airside, where they continued their libation at the edge of the runway in peace. read full story / add a comment

Fermin Muguruza Basque rock singer was booed and hissed at last Thursday by most of the people present at the Spanish Music Awards, in Madrid. At a gala where almost all the winners and presenters were eager to express their opposition to the war against Irak Muguruza dedicated his prize to "all the Egunkaria workers" and editor Martxelo Otamendi, who was present. Muguruza highlighted Egunkaria "as a victim of the global war", but Spanish musicians' sympathy begins and ends in the Middle East. read full story / add a comment

After the fall of Saddam's dictatorship, a wave of looting erupted in towns and cities across Iraq. The media was outraged, often more concerned about stolen property than the civilians wounded and murdered by the US invasion. It was proclaimed that Iraq was falling into "anarchy." This is unsurprising, if annoying, for anarchists. It is worthwhile to explain why the chaos in post-Saddam Iraq is not anarchy nor, in fact, a case against anarchism. read full story / add a comment

Comrades, On this, the 87th anniversary of the Irish Citizen Army marching into the streets of Dublin to set an example for the working class of Europe then engaged in fratricidal war against one another, to free Ireland of its long oppression and occupation, and to bring to birth an Irish Socialist Republic, I am proud to bring greetings from the comrades, supporters, and friends of the Irish Republican Socialist Movement in England, Scotland, Canada, the United States, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, and Australia. From around the world, your comrades join you in commemorating this important anniversary, the memory of the martyrs of the struggle for national liberation and socialism in Ireland, and a commitment to continue on for the liberation of the Irish nation and its working people. read full story / add a comment
