When did our Era of National Demoralisation begin, wonders Joanna Gray. Was it with the smoking ban, or when police ditched smart black for fluorescent yellow, or when doctors stopped making house calls? All of the above.

This St David's Day, why is Welsh Labour trying to decolonise Wales from Welsh people? Its vision of an 'anti-racist' Wales involves conjuring up an entirely fictitious history of multi-ethnic diversity.

as i was walking from the damn street massacre to the civic offices i saw a number of people who had been wearing "casual" clothes - trainers, jeans, etc (male and female) put on pig jackets and get their radios out. there was a clear undercover element there from the very start yesterday ; critical mass was tailed by two pig vans - while usually they only pick up on it from about half way on and tag along to the end. SO watch out in future, this is going to cause the pigs some serious hassle (anyone hear joe duffy today?) [their own fault of course], and they'll be looking to infiltrate what is obviously one of the most threatening political movements to emerge in years. read full story / add a comment

As a peaceful participant at the RTS protest I stood at the top of Dame street and did a headstand in the road in protest at what I had just witnessed, a young man being battoned on the head for no apparent reason. I was subsequently arrested(and assaulted in the police van) and the following is one of my official charges; "you the said accused....did an act to wit:engaged in the act of a handstand in the middle of a junction so as to cause or was likely to cause the traffic through such place to be obstructed." I wonder will it literally be laughed out of court, or could i catch them on a legal technicality as I was actually "engaged " in a headstand. So you are all welcome to join me at district court 46 on the sixth of June at 10:30am for a yoga demo/display of evidence! read full story / add a comment

Hi Folks, Eileen Whelan in the Newsroom in RTE wants to get in touch with 'organisers' and participants in RTS yesterday. You can contact her by phoning 01 2083111 and asking to be put through to the newsroom. Think it is worthwhile to tell 'our' side of the story. IMC here have provided them of footage of guards batoning with numbers off. They seem to be on a stick wicket so I don't think we should hold back in telling RTE what went on. Anyone know about hospitalised people? read full story / add a comment

The Irish Times' Maria O'Halloran spins this one as hard as she can for the boys in blue: "A number of people were injured in the clashes, though none seriously"; "He rejected suggestions that some protesters provoked gardaí. However, some 250 participants remained in Dame Street during the clashes [...]" "One of those involved said the car was owned by a participant and it was a symbolic "anti-car" demonstration [...] However, a Garda spokeswoman said it was a public disorder offence" What's the logical import of all the however's Marie? If I'm charitable I can assume that you don't understand what "however" implies in that context. I hope that you're just incompetent and not corrupt. read full story / add a comment

DemocracyNow! (Resistance Radio, Live from Ground Zero) is one of the best radio shows on the planet. Carried on the Pacifica Network (KPFK-LosAngeles, KPFA-Berkeley, WBAI-NewYork, KCRU and others) it is hosted by Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez. They carry reports from around the world about the struggle for Freedom and Democracy. Mary Kelly was interviewed on May 6th, live from inside the Church of the Nativity. She spoke about how one man had been killed by a sniper's dum-dum bullet (I thought they were banned by the Geneva convention?) and the detention of Peace Activists by the IDF. read full story / add a comment

FEATURED ARTICLES Travellers and activists to protest new Public Order Act Activists have often criticised the restrictions placed on protests and direct actions under the Public Order Act - and prosecutions under the Act have increased in recent years. Now they have been joined by Traveller groups in calling for a protest on May 2nd against a set of amendments to the Act pushed through the D*°il last month that create, for the first time, a crime of "trespass". This featured article takes a look at the current offences that have been used against political protesters, and the changes that the Government made under the anti-Traveller amendments Under these new laws, tagged onto the end of an otherwise normal housing bill, it's now a crime to enter and occupy or bring any object onto property (private or for the use of the public) where doing so would (among other things) damage, read full story / add a comment

Dear Dad, It was an enormously heavy responsibility you raised me with. You taught me that the Jews have been oppressed for centuries. You taught me that the holocaust could only happen because the Germans were silent. You taught me that Jews must never, never, never be silent when injustice occurs, because our silence makes us complicit. read full story / add a comment

Every Irish person, lost in the horror of what the Israelis, supported by US of A are doing in Palestine, can look with amazement if not pride at the courageous actions of those brave people who managed to access those who have taken refuge in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. The fact that an Irish women, Mary Kelly, is amongst them, answers so many questions for those who watch with anguish but feel there is nothing any one of us can do. There was, and she amongst others has done it. May be these brave people have secured those seeking refuge from a bloodbath which the Israelis would happily engage in. When Mary comes home, alive and safe as we all hope, we should organise a cavalcade of honour, and freedom of the city. read full story / add a comment
