Tomorrow President Chirac visits the UK for two days most british and french mainstream media organs look at the relationship between the two EU members with nuclear capability.

Chirac has confirmed that even though Blair is "supine" (one of three positions in which the body is laid flat upon the ground the others being prostrate and prone) in it's attitude to Washington, he still likes Mr Blair and has a photo of his young son Leo.
The same Leo who "someone" shopped for being drunk and disorderly years ago on Whitehall after a RTS! event.

The Green Party and Libertarian Party have just recently succeeded in raising enough money to demand a recount of votes in the Ohio election.

David Cobb of the Green Party and Michael Badnarik of the Libertarian Party (both candidates for the 2004 election) are both demanding a recount. These are the same two candidates who were arrested outside of one of the debates earlier in the year.

The campaign raised $150,000 in four days, more than the necessary 113,000 needed for a state recount. read full story / add a comment

Despite the serious physical and psychological effects of female genital mutilation (FGM) and the fact that in some countries in Africa up to 90% of women undergo FGM, in Ireland at the moment FGM is not explicitly illegal and women can not officially be granted asylum status on the grounds that they or their daughters would be at risk of FGM if returned to their country.
A few of us who were involved in the Campaign Against the Racist
Referendum are initiating an activist-based working group to gather information and look into the possibility of campaigning for changes in the Irish legislation with regard to FGM and other issues relevant to female asylum seekers in Ireland. If you are interested in getting involved come to the first working-group meeting at 7:30 pm Thursday 25th November in the LASC offices.

Meeting: 7:30pm, 5 Merrion Row (off St Stephen's Green), ring the "Latin American Solidarity Centre" bell. read full story / add a comment

Police Use Taser On 6-Year-Old Boy

A 6-year-old boy was subdued with a Taser while wielding a piece of glass and threatening to hurt himself in the principal's office, officials said Thursday.

The boy, who was not identified, was shocked by police with 50,000 volts of electric current on Oct. 20 at Kelsey Pharr Elementary School.

The principal called 911 after the child broke a picture frame in her office and waved the piece of glass, holding a security guard back. He cut himself under his eye and on his hand. read full story / add a comment

"The Chilean economy: Neo-liberalism, Imperialism and the Poor"

Talk given by Chilean economist Orlando Caputo

Over the last 30 years, since Pinochet dictatorship, Chile has been subjected to all sorts of economic experiments by the gang of "Chicago Boys" (economics students from that university) that ruled the country hand in hand with the military. It became an actual laboratory for neo-liberal policies. These policies have affected the standard of life of the working class dramatically, transforming the country to one of the most unequal in the whole world (it's now the 7th worst). read full story / add a comment
