Police Use Taser On 6-Year-Old Boy

A 6-year-old boy was subdued with a Taser while wielding a piece of glass and threatening to hurt himself in the principal's office, officials said Thursday.

The boy, who was not identified, was shocked by police with 50,000 volts of electric current on Oct. 20 at Kelsey Pharr Elementary School.

The principal called 911 after the child broke a picture frame in her office and waved the piece of glass, holding a security guard back. He cut himself under his eye and on his hand.

of course it would have been a better case scenario for all you brain dead here on indymedia if the kid had killed himself while they were trying to subdue him, or were all you neutered types waiting to hear that a gun was used ?

Say Barry,

I have not kept up to date with the use of Taser by British police forces. Their usual
dodge in the past has been to use the Six Counties as a testing ground for new technology. Wonder if that has/will happen?

The case of the police officer using such a weapon on a child is first and foremost an indictment on the so called discipline instiled into modern day police forces. Secondly, are you sure that someone is not having us on? I mean the training police officers receive nowadays ought to mean that any officer would be able to manually disharm most people never mind a disturbed child.

Where did this supposed incident take place?
Sounds like American to me.

Taser aims at home market as safety concerns mount
Stun gun's maker, critics disagree on weapon's danger

LAS VEGAS -- The maker of Tasers is launching a major high-stakes campaign to market its new model to consumers despite scores of fatalities and injuries linked to the police Taser, including the death of a man in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood last week.

Taser International, which has made its name in law enforcement and the military, envisions a future in which millions of average citizens protect their homes and communities with the stun guns instead of firearms.

I believe that incident was in the US.

I believe the cops in the UK have been issued with Tasers in some areas.

Over here they have CS spray as an addition to their very high powered arsenal. They are particularly fond of using it against Derry republicans during stop and search in the street. One sarcy comment is all it ususally takes, depending on who you are and who you support usually.

Don't worry though- they don't have the Death Ray or a decent collection of vinyl or trips anymore either. But they do have Mr Blair PM and Sir Blair top bobby at the Met and a case of the Willies.

I suppose it would have been better to just let him continue to cut himself with the glass, huh? The report states no further injury after the Taser use, but certainly discusses the injury caused by the glass.

Say Concerned,

Why don't we just fire a plastic bullet at him next time?

If a member of the police department concerned is unable to restrain a minor, in a civilised manner, then that person should not be in the job.

What's it going to be next? Using force on five year olds who do not eat their vegetables?
