They are descendants of the ancient Assyrians - builders of the earliest civilisation - and are determined to keep their culture alive, though thousands are undocumented and marginalised A DREAM lost in limbo: After 14 years, one man - an Assyrian from northern Iraq - has all but given up hope that he and his family will one day call Greece their home. "It's a shame," says the man, who wants to be called Petros, although that is not his real name. "We've been in Greece for many years. We don't make any trouble, we live a quiet life. In an interview today Ariel Sharon dismissed American pressure to give up illegal settlements in exchange for peace, saying that every US administration up until now had been against them also but it hadn't stood in the way of US aid and support to date. He also said that the Israeli version of the Berlin wall will be re-routed to annex settlements such as Beit El into Israel. Rather than show willingness to negotiate he chose instead to rachet up the tension saying that the Palestinians will have no right of return as a precondition to any agreement. read full story / add a comment
