The local planning process is obviously a joke as it is easily subverted by politicians we didn't elect. Fianna Fail (and Fianna Gael) have demonstrated a greater ability to turn Section 4 rezonings into cash than most. You'd think with all the tribunals people would want the process that places such power in the hands of the corruptible to be changed. The Indo has another story which raises questions. read full story / add a comment

By Kimberly A.C. Wilson Sun Staff December 10, 2002 The mourners filled the street yesterday in West Baltimore because Philip Berrigan gave focus to the anti-war movement 40 years ago. Rob Thaxton and his cellmate Brian McCarvill have made an appeal for help in challenging the american prison system. The prison officials there view anarchists as a streetgang and under their 'security threat group' rules, routinely reject mail, 'zines and other publications that exhibit circle As (anarchy signs). Rob and Brian are asking people to send in postcards that display a large anarchy symbol on the front with the words 'this is not a gang symbol'. They also ask that the senders include a return address and a full name so the prisoncrats have no excuse to throw the postcards away. In Robs words ' we want to make the prison censors hate their job, since they lack the cognitive skill to think about what they are doing.' Any help will be appreciated and stamps avaliable on request if needed. Rob Thaxton#12112716 OSP, 2605 State Street,Salem, OR 97310. USA Brian McCarvill#11037967 read full story / add a comment

The Government are presently dismantling CE projects throughout the Country. This has implications for literally hundreds of organisations, most of that are run by local communities providing essential services that they have decided are vital to their area. No one appears to be harnessing opposition to CE cuts or attempting to organise the people who will be effected by them. Mostly, CE projects services are targetted at the people who have been forgotten by society. The, so called, community pillar of the social partnership have done little to insist on the protection of these projects. Also the workers on such projects are either long term unemployed, lone parents or people with disabilities and therefore have no power to resist the cuts. The only intervention by Unions has been to negotiate redundancy for supervisors. While I have no objection to this, some supervisors are now actively encouraging the closure of projects and read full story / add a comment
