An Irish pub in Afghanistan has been shut down, just weeks after it opened. The Irish Club in the capital Kabul was the country's only bar. It shut down after receiving warnings it could be the target of a terrorist attack. News of the threats were passed onto the owner by the US Embassy and the UN, which also banned its staff from visiting. A UN official said if someone were to bomb it, the entire international community could be wiped out in one night. The bar will remain shut for at least a week. read full story / add a comment

These acts of disobedience and boycott are referencing a new language: the movement has become substantive because it is implementing its own laws, from below, in order to end crimes against humanity. It is implementing blockades of the merchandise of war, sanctioning those who are speculating in the war, breaking off diplomatic ties with political representatives of the governments at war. That movement is dreaming up another possible world, and it knows that, in order to achieve that world, it must remove the dimension of unjust and cynical legality of the market of war, in order to make room for humanity. read full story / add a comment
