In a little church just off the Mother of All Alleys in downtown Baghdad is clear proof of Saddams weapons program. Inside the Church of St Rufus the Dog Walker is a golden cookie jar with wafers and cheap wine. These a precursors of flesh and blood. And not just any flesh and blood but that a "Supreme Being". Weapons inspectors have found that a man in a round collar waving the cookie jar around intoning "Dominus Vobiscum" begins the process of turning these seemingly innocent articles, hitherto permitted under the oil for food program into a deadly weapon. These dual use commodities are clear evidence of a material breach of the UN resolutions and permit only one response: Total War! Accordingly this will begin early in the new year. Go in peace and pray for me! read full story / add a comment

Greedy miser George Bains earns over £234,000 a year, from his 3 jobs, sitting on boards of big buisness companies, as well as his honorary pay check for his exclusive job as Vice chancellor of Queens University Belfast, yet he has the cheek to slap down our firefighters 40% pay rise. The firefighters are only asking for 1/7 of George's big wages. On George's salary you could employ 7 firefighters. read full story / add a comment

Following the gender workshop which happened during the last Grassroot gathering in Belfast, I would like to remind youse people that we are still working on it and I hope the next GG will have a workshop on the issue on more practical tactics. the women's movement in western europe has come to a dead end. I would like to link it to the class struggle perspective. In recent years when it has been so cool to go to protests against globalisation most of us tend to forget that the struggle is at home. Yes, it is good and great that today we have such great links with others around the world but no matter what the statistics say, there is a majority of oppressed people in our country and we must stand with them first or else we will have no strength. And most of us, at least myself are read full story / add a comment

Christmas is well and truly upon us as we get set for the showers of food, gifts and relaxation time that most of us will enjoy over the coming week or so. After all the hype and stressful shopping of the past few weeks, it will come as a welcome relief to finally sit down and enjoy the days ahead. And so we should – it’s rare in these days of rushing and running around that we find the time for the important things in life like sharing quality home cooked food with our families and loved ones. This is what Christmas should be all about, Christian or otherwise, taking time out to reflect, to give thanks and to ponder the past, present and future. read full story / add a comment

About 50 people defied the rain and the pre-Christmas shopping frenzy to join in an anti-war protest on Saturday afternoon, 22 December, in Shop-street, Galway. It was a lively protest -with lots of chanting and singing- which was generally well-received by the public. 1,000 anti-war Christmas cards were distributed. The Galway Alliance Against War plans another street protest on Saturday 4 January 2003. Paraic Breatnach, founder of street theatre company Macnas, has volunteered his services for a day-long action, which will focus on communicating the impact the looming war will have on Iraqi civilians. A large number of volunteers will be required. Please contact GAAW if you can spare an hour or two on the day. read full story / add a comment

He wishes (for x mas no doubt) "that all members finding themselves before the court be exhonerated for the Reclaim The Streets Riots. I believe these members were doing their duty and, when all facts are presented in these cases, I hope the courts conclude that these members had no alternative but to do their duty. I wish that the people would be fair. To do nothing in public order issues would equally draw criticism.' - Quoted in Current issue of Garda Review (and no I am not making this up just for kiks) read full story / add a comment

: I think the post by these so-called "anarchists," and their timing, is a cowardly act of aggression against the progress of all Latin American social movements right now. If Venezuela falls to a U.S. coup, it's going to turn the clock back 30 years in the entire hemisphere. We'll be right back in Santiago de Chile, September 11, 1973. Pinochet rounded up and shot all the anarchists, too, you know. Remember that the Chile coup led to Operation Condor and military dictatorship terror in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, and Bolivia among other places. The cancer spread all the way to Mexico. THAT is what is being attempted right now. The people whining about Chávez today are like those who whined about Allende in the early 70s . . . he wasn't politically perfect enough for them. Well, look what they got. read full story / add a comment
