Free Speech 1 Zionism 0

Dutch prosecutors reject ridiculous Israeli demand

The global Israeli campaign against free speech suffered a setback today when Dutch prosecutors refused to lay charges against the wife of the European Central Bank president following comments she made about Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine.

Pro-Israeli Jewish groups had asked prosecutors to investigate Gretta Duisenberg for hate crimes after she said she would be seeking six million signatures on a petition against Israeli military activities in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The groups said her use of the number six million was a deliberate reference to the number of Jews slaughtered by Nazi Germany during the Holocaust. They accused Ms Duisenberg of anti-semitism, a charge that has been laid against several leading politicians and academics who have spoken about the horrors perpetrated by Israeli soldiers during their 35-year-old illegal occupation of Palestine.

Ms Duisenberg, who made the remark at a Palestinian solidarity rally, had already been the victim of a campaign by Jewish lobby groups when she hung the Palestinian flag from her balcony to express her support for Palestinian freedom.

Ms Duisenberg said she hadn’t intended to offend Jews by inadvertently using the number six million during her comment. Today, the Dutch public prosecutor’s office dismissed the pro-Israeli groups’ request for legal action, saying Ms Duisenberg’s comments could not be seen as inciting racial hatred.

If Ms Duisenberg chose the number 6,000,000 as a gentle rebuke and reminder to Israel, that would scarcely be anti-semitic!
I hope she seeks signatures in Denmark. A lot of people in this enlightened nation are deeply trouble about the acts odf Israel against the Palestinians.

Zionists have not only hushed the USA media and led to the brainwashing of the American People, they seek to make people of the world
coconspirators in their inhumane acts. Yet, we are constantly reminded of how the whole German population is guilty because they did not fight against the Nazi program. By the same logic all humans that do not oppose the extermination and destruction of the Palestinians are collaborators
and accomplices with the Zionist plague.

It's great being an American; not only will the US soon fight another war for Israel, but I get to pay for it.

Its interesting to know that she is looking for 6 million signature. Pls do get it from Malaysia, im sure you will get more than that.

The Jews keep reminding the world over the holocoust. Although the number is said to be 6 mil, but the actual number is believed to be far less than that.

However, the past is past, it should be a lesson and thus giving us, the population of the world a chance to act for peace and not just to sit and watch the crimes around the world.

In my opinion, US and Israel is the biggest threat to the entire world than the rest of the nations.

I think, it a move to be supported that is to obtain ATLEAST 6 mil signature, if possible around the globe.

I support the right of the Palestinian people to their own state, I am appalled by the crimes committed against the Palestinian people by Sharon and his predecessors, however I consider the comment of Ms. Duisenberg to be at the very least in very poor taste. The holocaust perpetrated against Jewish communities in Europe during WW11 was a unique crime in the sense that it was genocide on an industrial scale. I am sure that Ms. Duisenberg is aware of what happened to the Jewish community in Holland during the Second World War. Those of us who support the Palestinian cause must never allow supporters of the Sharon regime to accuse us of anti-Semitism. Racism in all its forms must be condemned and fought against. Given what happened in Europe during WW11, the Jewish people are entitled to their own state and so are the Palestinian people. Incidentally some of the comments re this post are clearly anti-Semitic and should be given the guidelines be removed.

It seems like you're supporting censorship Des. Remember these are the same people, whom many in Indymedia Ireland strongly suspect of posting fake notices about Indymedia Ireland closing down on New Year's Day. BTW these ultra Zionist fanatics showed just how ignorant and illiterate they are by putting the wrong date on their 'closure' notices (2002 instead of 2003). That was really smart wasn't it Des?

I do support free speech; everyone has the right to express his/her opinion. I do not support any form of racism including anti-Semitism.
Some of the previous comments could perhaps (charitably) be described as ill informed, one is simply racist (anti Semitic) and according to guidelines should be deleted. As for the fake closure item, what on earth are you asking me for? You appear to know more about it than I do.

Arabs are the world's eternal whiners.

They complain about the Crusades, which admittedly were learned from Muslim conquerors. They wallow in their own self pity, constantly trying to portay themselves as victims, with their women hollaring about frantically and throwing their hands up in the air. Young boys will go and throw rocks in front of 20-30 photographers to etch that ever-so subtle message of being the underdog (awww.. poor highly weaponized area second only to North Korea in arms per square foot) ... but yet, in Arabic they are the strongest, most moral, most omnipotent force in the world. In Arabic, their true greatness is only being stopped by the existence of Jews - somehow.. 6 million Jews in a land far removed from their own existence has oppressed them. Somehow, Jews forced Iraq to invade Kuwait, forced Egypt to gas Yemen, forced King Hussein to kill 15,000-20,000 "Palestinians," forced Syria to invade Lebanon, forced Saudi Arabian dictators on the populace, forced Syria to brutally oppress political opposition in Hama, etc. Somehow, a few Jews have created a socio-political religion that is so inherently flawed it has destroyed the lives, societies, and economies of millions of peeople in dozens of countries.

And yet, as they wallow in their own misery, their societies decaying from decrepid abuse and corruption, they still manage to find the time to come to western countries and complain about the lack of shari'ia law.

Cry me a freakin river.. let's get on with the show and democratize Arabia.

- See how stupid you sound? You should be embarrassed, I understand your sentiments, but being that stupid about it doesn't help your argument.

If in 35 years, the Arab world has been unable to recognize the legitimacy of Israel to exist, and has instead resorted to blowing up innocent civilians - Israel has every right, legally and morally, to respond as it sees fit.

Unfortunately, Israel's response has been rather tepid and restrained, which has only perpetuated the situation. Failing to recognize this war has led the terrorists within the Arab community to advance their cause further - and this has been a detriment to Palestinian Arabs and Israelis alike (but admittedly a wonderful boon to the Arab dictatorships in the region).

The first step in moving forward is to remove the external influences from a situation in which they are not held accountable today. By this, I mean cutting of Iranian, Iraqi, and Saudi support for terrorism within the Palestinian Arab society. Palestinian Arabs are under siege from a corrupt dictatorship coupled with murderous and intimidating gangs of terrorists from Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Fatah. Until these scourges of society are removed, Palestinian Arabs cannot even begin to create a modern, civil, and humane society, and without this, they should certainly not be allowed to have a state.

You don't reward terrorists and thugs with a state of their own, else you'll soon have terrorists and thugs working the world over for states of their own.

With the exception of Des and SecH (who I doubt is a regular here) you people ought to be ashamed. Do you really consider yourselves liberals? You are not. Do you really think you are thinking independently? Guess again. I peruse Indymedias different sites from time to time, and as a left-of-center Democrat in the US, I find it embarrassing that so many from my "camp" actually suscribe to this junk.
