(Indymedia.ie Jun 29th 2005) The High Court has jailed five people at the request of Shell for attempting to stop the multinational from laying a controversial, high-pressure, "offshore" gas pipeline through their land in Rossport, Co Mayo. The judge ordered that the five men - four small landowners and a local supporter - be imprisoned "until they purge their contempt", meaning they will not be released until they have promised to allow Shell to dig up their land. read full story / add a comment

By VICTOR L. SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer. Tue Jun 28, 3:38 PM ET ROME - Italian prosecutors want to extradite 13 CIA officials accused of kidnapping a radical Muslim cleric and transporting him to Egypt where he reportedly was tortured, and they've asked Interpol to help track down the Americans, a court official said Tuesday. the 200º anniversary of the battle of trafalgar in which served approximately 4000 seamen under admiral Nelson and 900 under admiral Villeneuve is to be held today. It shall mark 115 days since the Queen of Engurland under the direction of very important man, (& don't you know it now? in the meantime) Tony "the antichrist" Blair celebrated the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar on the 21st of June 2005, a mere more than week since he got the UK presidency of the European Union. read full story / add a comment

It’s telling, like some mammoth statement of the power of capital it opened up on a random Thursday in March. It lay hidden in hoarding for years, and then just appeared to occupy the landscape, dislocate and redefine the geography of Dundrum. It announced itself everywhere in the media, crowds of shoppers pushed their faces against the glass, and finally its doors swung open while they trampled each other in a rush to stores they’d marked out days in advance. 75, 000 people in the first day - taking some time off work, with or without the boss’s permission. The place looks like the future used to look in films from the 1960’s, conveyor belts drag you back and forth from floor to floor, as regular as an assembly line, while capsules of consumers shoot up and down. Dundrum Town Centre does not bode well for how our lives are being ordered for us. read full story / add a comment

It has long been observed, that on Sunday the mass does different things. Some go to church, some return from clubs and sleep, some read a book, some do the gardening, some catch up with their kids, some eat a lot, some practise yoga, some Vote. It has long been valued that on their non-banking days people are pretty much the same as when they work, graft, toil and sweat. Except they have less money making opportunities. This facilitates their increased participation in their society as citizens and nationals of the Civilised World. It has long been observed that the mass on their non banking days readily absorb shite. This is why coups are most successful on the weekend, and elections as well. It is on your non-banking days that you are presented with the most filagree woven tissues of spirit and lie, ghost and truth. It is through weekend that we have considerable space in your head. In today's edition :- "being counted" read full story / add a comment
