Bank Holiday Monday: up to 1000 people partied hard on the streets of Dublin on the south side of the River Liffey along Burgh Quay and George's Quay. The east end of the quay at Butt Bridge was blocked and at 3pm the party was in full swing with three sound systems, capoeira, football, twister, dancing, bongoing, cheering and guerrilla gardening. read full story / add a comment ![]()

A plump woman with white hair and a sun-wizened face sits cross-legged in the entrance to her home. “My name is Maali Wahdan and I live here,” she says stoutly. Her figure is framed by jagged concrete. Red spray paint in the rear of the room indicates that the caved-in structure is now slated for demolition read full story / add a comment ![]()

"Babylon will be destroyed in an overwhelming judgment of fire, but it will be in the Tribulation, which may be near, but not now. This is why we see Saddam Hussein continuing to be such a problem today, and also why it defies reason, human or inhuman, as to why the job was not completed in 1991. read full story / add a comment ![]()

OK, OK. I get the message: "There's still more people out there to screw over." You didn't need to spend so much on your advertising campaign, the message is clear already. That's just my sarcastic way of asking: "how many people would a DART poster house?" read full story / add a comment ![]()

The Pat Finucane Centre's (PFC) independent community, media, and police survey of sectarian incidents is the most complete log in existence. It makes for chilling reading and explodes the myth that things north of the border are "sorted". Monthly updates and other mail-outs are available free of charge from the PFC. Just send an email to [email protected] with the word "subscribe" in the subject column. read full story / add a comment ![]()

This is just one of a hell of a lot of aircraft that have been coming and going through Shannon since late September. If I had better equipment I'd have put this and many others up ages ago. Anyway, these photos are probably the best quality as this aircraft remained on the ground into daylight hours. read full story / add a comment ![]()

The Public Order Act, passed in 1994 and subsequently one of the more draconian and controversial pieces of Irish legislation, has come back into the public eye with the passing of amendments related to "trespassing" in the dying days of the Dáil. Activists have certainly been aware of this Act as it stands, as it's one of the most effective weapons of the Gardai when confronted with any demonstration. Even when it was originally passed, politicians argued about the wording for weeks and the President (Mary Robinson) summoned the Council of State to consider if it was even constitutional. The new offences have the potential, if used in a certain way, to further curtail civil liberties and the right to protest. They are directed towards members of the Traveller community - who have called a protest on May 2nd read full story / add a comment ![]()

As Tom pointed out in his detailed article here earlier (http://www.indymedia.ie/cgi-bin/newswire.cgi?id=2338&start=70), the American military aircraft that was recently refueling at Shannon airport is a multi-purpose tool for the war. When not providing aerial refueling to other military planes, this plane can be used to drop "Daisy Cutter" bombs. read full story / add a comment |
