Jump To Comment: 1 2 3In our protests against the behaviour of the state of Israel we must be careful to distinguish between the state and Jewish people. In this respect the use of the star of David, even if taken from the Israeli flag, can only too easily be interpreted as a denoter of Jewishness rather than of the state. Since the image shows nothing but the caricature of a face, it is easily (mis-?) interpreted as an attack on Jewish people. I think this is something from which Indymedia should dissociate itself.
Even if this posting were less easily interpreted as an attack on Jewish people I would still object to it appearing on this site. Indymedia is not only an independent news service which gives us a forum in which to discuss current events, it also represents the anti-globalisation and anti-war movements to the world. In that respect we should conduct ourselves fittingly and engage in debate rather than personal attack.
This photograph adds nothing to the debate and diminishes us by association (even if interpreted as satire). I would like this posting to be removed.
