This was covered by Marian Finnuchain this morning who was very sympathetic to what had happened, but no one was there to represent those who organized the protest. Only a local passerby who got caught up in it.

The resistance is begninning my dear friends! PEOPLE before profit. Huge commendments to all those who participated at the protest, those who got hit while at it and to those who got arrested. The World Thanks You.

There's no need to get aggressive or insulting to towards those on either side of the argument. Why insult people insult people or groups of people?
Right Wing or Left wing , it is clear that what happened on Bank Holiday Monday was appalling. I know that many Right Wing people, while not agreeing with the views of those involved in Reclaim the Streets,do not feel that such behaviour on the part of the Gardai has a legitimate place in civilised society.
Many people had never viewed the Gardai in this way before. They have never been required to have contact with them. It has shocked many of these people. Perhaps, then, some good can come of this? It may be a wake up call. Gardai have been behaving in this arrogant and psycotic manner for a very long time. Far from being an instrument of the law, they have flouted the law repeatedly.
What happened on Monday is not a question for an inquiry, internal or external. It is a matter for the judiciary to consider. The Gardai involved are guilty of various types of assault,incitement to violence and affray to name but a few. If there are others, in the crowd , who are guilty of crimes or misdemeanours let them also be tried The crucial matter is that Gardai, with or without their ID badges, are not above the Law. They must be tried and pay their debt, ( a huge one), to society. Anything less is an insult not only to those injured but to all free thinking citizens of this country, whther they be "Right wing" or "Left Wing" or neither.

It is funny that Jim, from Dublin, thinks that the massacres and global climate crisis and military ramp-up of the whole-freekin world is orderly and that people gathered together to party and celebrate in spring is "chaos." If you really want to see "chaos" go to anywhere in the world that has been "de-stabilized" by Western Pigs! Jim is loyalists, toadie idiot and it is really too bad that people that as are this priviledged are also insulated and arrogant fools spouting old insults at outdated stereotypes. He has no power, accept to go along with fascist police-state, so, he sits on the sidelines of life and insults all who dare to get engaged. Will we ever evolve? Will there ever be a culture that doesn't just accept it, when "leaders" go away to negotiate for us and only come back with 26 counties? Can we ever get over our conformist fears and face down arbitrary and deadly authority figures?
Can we be brave enough to ask ourselves some serious questions and really try to obtain something that resembles democracy? Or will we always let people like Jim, through their blind, idiot conformity, keep us down at their level? We want to rise above this current and deadly malaise, can the fear-mongering Jims of the world come along? Can they be trusted? Or must the garden be weeded before true sustainability and harmony can be evidenced on this earth?

Skater X thinks that as long as people like Jim, who are consuming so many of the planet's resources, can make statements that reflect such apathy, fear and ignorance - maybe there needs to be more weeding.

I'm assuming here (some of you may think this is a huge leap in logic) that the gardai didn't just take out there batons and start beating people for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I mean, this isn't the simpsons. Anyone who says otherwise is either incredibly stupid or is being brainwashed by the opinions of a small minority. The gardai were provoked from the start, they were unsure as to what they should do and they felt threatened. GR and RTS have stated that they misinfored the gardai to the utmost and that uncertainty led the gardai to do what they did. i'm not saying that they're justified in beating innocent civilians,but i am saying that it was a small minority of the garda presence that crossed the line from enforcing the law into police brutality.

Kev - I know that usually it would be fair to assume that there was violence on both sides, but that seems to be exactly what made this protest different. I was there for the day and can honestly say I saw no provocation on the part of the protesters.

I know that I say that there absolutely definitely wasn't, but can I just ask you to consider for a moment the implications of your earlier statement..... i.e., that if people are made to feel that even if they do their utmost to remain peaceful in the face of unexpected violence that no-one will believe them.

Next time they might just fight back. I don't want that, do you?

David, I personally don't think that an order to "get educated" from someone who uses incorrect syntax or spelling has any real clout.

If you want to talk intelligence or education, the truth is that the majority of people who hold any type of philosophically subversive views are probably much better-read and intellectually able than your average Joe who is just happy to maintain the status quo. And considering this, maybe you should listen to their ideas on how to improve society, rather than hiding behind the faded glory of "THE ESTABLISHMENT" in all its crumbling inadequacy.
