In January of this year, communities in Swords and Dublin 15 were celebrating the success of Socialist Party motions, that secured a green belt zoning on hundreds of acres of land, which had been targeted for residential development. At the end of May, the Development Plan changes had to be ratified by the Councillors. However in a disgusting move, Sinn Fein sided with Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to overturn the decision for 140 acres in Swords and restore the residential zonings. Their Councillor did not participate in any of the discussions during the months of meetings on this plan and yet it was with that one vote that all the campaigning of the community was betrayed. ... read full story / add a comment

The text was compiled by members of the ARN Steering Committee: The Housing Executive have just been involved in one of the most despicable acts against travellers imaginable. Yesterday (Friday 10 June), in an appalling move, a court slapped ASBOs on two members of the traveller community barring them from entering Larne town. The two travellers form part of a much bigger family and social group and therefore it is a bar on a whole group of travellers. ... read full story / add a comment

There are currently 2 Scania lorries carrying lengths of pipeline for Shell attempting to access farmers' land. They are being held by a van and about 13 local people. There is also one Gard present at the scene. The standoff has been going on since 6pm when local farmer Willie Corduff witnessed the lorries attempting to access (his)? land. This is the time to act folks. If you were up in Mayo at the weekend you'll know why. we HAVE to support these people. If you can get up there consider going. Perhaps we need a permanent activist presence there. If you can't get there do something in your own area. look for Shell offices, govt. offices, Statoil are part of the consortium too. We need a huge noise now to let these invaders know that they can't get away with this kind of shit. ... read full story / add a comment
