According to Danish tradition, the weather on one's birthday indicates whether one has been naughty or nice throughout the year. The jury is still out on US President George W. Bush. Heavy clouds blanketed the sun as his motorcade pulled up to Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen's Marienborg residence for his 2005 birthday.

President Bush disappeared into the mansion to celebrate his birthday with Rasmussen, who presented him with a birthday present and a cake shaped like a Texan cowboy. At the obligatory press conference held afterward, President Bush offered his thanks to Rasmussen.

On the streets of Ballina this time, the Mayo people and protesters from further afield demonstrated their anger and contempt against the iniquitous jailing of the Rossport Five and the robbing of our resources by criminal Shell and their fellow-travellers in government.

OVER the past year the local people from the pretty little West Bank village of Bil’in have been holding protests every Friday against the planned building of Israel’s Wall (Apartheid Wall/Security Fence) right outside the northern section of the village. Each Friday villagers have been joined by left wing Israeli’s and international activists to march to the line where the wall is to be built. Two weeks ago (Friday 8, July) a Palestinian youth died from injuries he received while on the protest from a ‘rubber bullet’ fired by the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). Michael McDowell has been invited to open this years Dublin Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. Given his ongoing attack against minorities there are many in the lgbt community calling on the fesitval organisers to withdraw their invitation.

To add your voice in opposition to what is a hypocrtical attempt by McDowell to appear inclusive while at the same time continuing his racist policy of deportations email the organisers

Ex student activists from the late 1980's might remember the name of TCD student and general trouble maker Andrew Black. Well tonight he is on the last table of the Los Vegas 'World Poker Series' with some 8 million dollars in chips sitting in front of him. This puts him at a real chance of winning as the table leader is only on 10 million.
