Last Wednesday, a small group of anti-war activists took to the streets of Galway to lay bare, as it were, the psychopathology of the war criminals in the White House.

With the sabre being rattled in the face of Iran at the moment, the envisaged plan to attack China and "regionalize" it still viable and the military option against Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, Syria and North Korea alive and well on the drawing boards of the Pentagon, we were not indulging in gratuitous bogey man theatrics, be afraid, be very afraid. ... read full story / add a comment

In one of his daily letters to Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and foreign minister Per Stig Møller, prize-winning journalist Bo Elkjær refers to a statement by a State Department official that the United States will conduct future wars through the deployment of ad-hoc coalitions of the willing, similar to that which invaded Iraq in March 2003, rather than relying on established institutions such as NATO or the United Nations to resolve conflicts.

Bo Elkjær shared the prestigious Cavling prize for the year 2003 for his work in publishing meticulously detailed documentation for the falsification of the basis for Danish participation in the invasion of Iraq. Contrary to Danish principles of transparency, the prime minister and foreign minister are refusing to grant Elkjær an interview in which they might reply to his many pointed questions. ... read full story / add a comment

The call for US army planes using Shannon airport to be inspected was strengthened today when the Council for Europe welcomed the proposal made by the Irish Human Rights Commission.
In a letter to the president of the IHRC, Maurice Manning, the Council supported the need for the planes to be inspected and said that it shared the concerns over the use of Shannon by planes that may be carrying prisoners destined for illegal torture camps.

Elements of the Irish labour movement are actively undermining its philosophy to keep establishment parties in power, a Labour Party stalwart has claimed. Declan Bree, a former TD and the current mayor of Sligo, made his comments while addressing a wreath-laying ceremony to mark the 60th anniversary of the death of the Leitrim socialist Jim Gralton on January 1.
His comments were widely seen as a thinly veiled attack on his party leader, Pat Rabbitte. ... read full story / add a comment
