Nuair a bhí na Palaistínigh óga anseo anuraidh chothaigh siad go leor poiblíocht agus go leor suim agus dlúththacaíocht don Phalaistín. Thosaigh go leor daoine, mé féin san áireamh, ag smaointeamh ar chuairt a thabhairt ar thír Hanine, Mohammed, Maisa' agus chun dlúththacaíocht a léiriú agus chun cuidiú praicticiúil a thabhairt do na Palaistínigh. ... read full story / add a comment

Privatising the world: water, seeds, genes, healthcare - very few things today are not thought to be considered saleable comodities. 'The Bottom Line' investigates the privatising of the world and invites us to reflect on the 'common good' notion which is threatened both by the decreasing role of the state and the prevailing trend to patent everything that belonged to society for generations. With stories from Mexico, India, Canada and France. Mostly in English, narration is in Irish with English subtitles throughout.

An Domhan ar Díol: Uisce, síolta, géinte agus cúram sláinte - is beag rud nach féidir a dhíol sa lá atá inniu ann. Déanann an clár seo cíoradh ar phríobháidiú an domhain agus tarraingíonn ár n-aird ar an meon 'leas na ndaoine', meon atá i mbaol anois mar gheall ar ról an Stáit i saol na linne a bheith ag laghdú agus an claonadh a bhíonn ann paitinn a fháil ar gach rud, fiú rudaí a ceapadh riamh anall go mba leis an bpobal i gcoitinne iad. ... read full story / add a comment

Earlier today, Ed Horgan, Conor Cregan, Eoin Rice and I went out to Shannon airport with Scott Ritter who departed for the States. A few days earlier he had arrived in Ireland to testify at Mary Kelly's trial in Kilrush and to give soem public talks on the war on Iraq.
As a sign of appreciation we decided it best to give him a warm send off. The Aer Rianta folks wanted to watch too! :) They were annoyed to see us there and accused us of trespassing, even though they knew we were just seeing someone off. ... read full story / add a comment

On Thursday night, Scott Ritter the former UN weapons inspector for Iraq spoke to a packed room in the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway, at a meeting hosted by the Galway Alliance Against War. Scott was in Ireland to testify at Mary Kelly's trial, and spoke at length about her actions in disarming a US warplane at Shannon airport, and how he felt more people need to become active citizens, rather than just passive consumers, if we are to make into a reality the notion that both Ireland and America are democratic republics. ... read full story / add a comment

On the afternoon of 2 July people protesting the conditions at Maghaberry jail took over a sixth floor office at Dundonald House, headquarters of the Prison Services, to draw attention to the worsening situation. Last weekend, prisoners inside the jail protested and 7 prisoners took to the rooftop overnight to protest the lack of segregation in the jail and the new attempt to "double up" loyalist and republican prisoners in the same cell. As a result 4 prisoners have embarked on a no-wash protest. All visits have been suspended in response by the NIO.

The protesters at Dundonald House hung banners from the windows and were able to have a spokesperson and relatives of prisoners speak to the number two person in charge of the Prison Services to explain the problems, including the lack of communication to families when they raise their concerns about treatment of their loved ones.
