the 23rd of May, the RTE news broadcast caught my eye for a variety of reasons. Perhaps it was name of the barrister at law, Paul Anthony Mc Dermott explaining to RTE legal affairs editor Mary Wilson, what had occured at yesterday's Supreme Court ruling..... http://www.rte.ie/news/2006/0523/sex.html Or maybe it was how Bertie Ahern said sorry for calling someone a thief and how Deputy Rabitte looked at him.... Maybe it was the idea of how someone could go empty their gun at a school in Cork and not be "Yankee style" a kid, but a grown up instead... ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

The Unmanageables held a Mourning Tea at the Irish Aviation Department this morning as part of the International Womens Day for Disarmament. Veils were worn in mourning for the lives lost to War. The location was chosen by the Women to symbolise our disgust at the Irish Aviation Authority's facilitation of the continued illegal war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan. Blood on our hands symbolises our culpability in war and rendition flights. We say Our Government is not mandated to utilise Shannon in such a manner. Lady Unmanageable say's "Out Damn Bertie ! The decision by Mr Prodi to honour the public will of the Italian people and withdraw the Italian presence in Iraq, and also to describe the war as "illegal" and a "mistake" has allowed Italians to give more attention to the manipulation of information during the Berlusconi years and return to the causes of Italian casualties & hostages during the Iraq war. The most senior officer of the Italian forces to be killed was Nicola Calipari of the Italian secret service who was shot by the US army. on the 4th of March 2004, after one month spent in captivity, Giuliana Sgrena a journalist of the italian newspaper "il Manifesto" was released after negotiations had been opened by Calipari and brought to "safety". Their route had been communicated to their US coalition partners before hand. It is important to remember that the murder of Calipari and his subsequent state funeral prompted Berlusconi to first suggest the withdrawl of troops, but unconstitutionally, as he made the offer through his own TV station & not in parliament. Giuliana Sgrena has now published a book on her experiences & granted an interview, which I am reproducing in english translation here. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

REPORT FROM WARSAW - POLAND Few days ago, on 16th of May, in the evening, an antifasciscist activist was attacked by two nazis, with clear intentions to kill him. Maciek fell on the ground and was kicked by the nazis for a while, with them shouting "We'll kill you, you leftist motherfucker!". ... read full story / add a comment ![]()
