European gas prices recently went above ?58 per megawatt hour ? the equivalent of $100 per barrel of oil. This is "absolutely destructive for energy-intensive manufacturing", in the words of one industry analyst.

Any electrician knows that Lego bricks are genderless, not 'heteronormative', because each can 'mate' with any other. Perhaps Science Museum staff should study to be electricians and actually make themselves useful.

offsite link Why All Parents Should Protest Against the Children?s Wellbeing and Schools Bill Tue Feb 11, 2025 18:14 | Elizabeth Dulley
Any parent can currently withdraw their child from school if they're unhappy. Labour's Schools Bill ends that right for many, giving local authorities a veto. That's why all parents should protest against this state power grab.

Kathy Kelly is a person of profound integrity, who knows how to walk the walk. She will testify at the trial of the Pitstop Ploughshares tomorrow in the Four Courts. In a climate in which the issue of Iraq and the use of Shannon has been put on the back burner for many, Kathy Kelly is there to remind us of what things are like on the ground for the ordinary people of Iraq as they continue to struggle with the ongoing daily realities of depleted uranium effects and ever escalating violence. Kathy has been a loyal and consistent supporter of the five on trial, having travelled to each of their trials and remained consistent in her support throughout the three-and-a-half years of legal proceedings. ... read full story / add a comment

The Dublin Shell to Sea Table Quiz is organised for Thursday the 13th of July in Doyle's Pub (opposite Trinity College, near Pearse Street Garda Station). It runs from 8pm to 11pm and teams of 4 will compete in ten rounds of questions. Residents in the locality have been warned that a dangerous, experimental raw quiz is planned to be installed in the area. The questions will be odourless, and at many times the pressure of a normal quiz. In the event of raffle, everyone in the audience might win a prize.

And on foot of that attractive advertisement, I bravely went.............. ... read full story / add a comment

Today's Sunday Independent carries two advertisements seeking to recruit Irish people to work as Sales Representatives for a company, apparently called 'Exchange', whose sole function is to sell cars, motorbikes and utility vehicles to US military personnel serving abroad. These particular adverts are looking for people to service the US war machine in Iraq, Kuwait and the Middle East in general. Those employed will be based on US military facilities in Iraq and Kuwait.

Prospective applicants are directed to a website, which carries the company motto:

'The only overseas car-buying program created by the [US] military, for the military'.

It is a disgrace that an Irish newspaper is carrying advertisements recruiting civilians to service the US war machine in Iraq. Those who consider applying should bear in mind that they will be viewed in Iraq as servants of the US military and their lives will be at grave risk. Holding Irish citizenship will make no difference. ... read full story / add a comment

Every time I have visited Shannon airport in recent months there have been suspicious US aircraft at the airport. However, the Gardai and Irish Defence Forces, have not been investigating the likely criminal use of Shannon airport reasons of torture and unlawful mass murder in Iraq and Afghanistan. They have been overtly and covertly protecting international criminals as they pass through Shannon airport. ... read full story / add a comment

Balseskin Reception Centre is a 380 bed accomodation centre for asylum seekers and their families in Finglas, north Dublin. It was purpose built some 5 years ago and has a well functioning medical unit, providing specialist health screening and medical care to the residents of the centre. However the centre is to be closed on ministerial orders, at short notice (next Friday) and without any consultation with staff in the HSE and the RIA (Reception and Integration Agency, Dept. of Justice). The 260 residents of the centre now have to be housed elsewhere. This will inevitably cause a disruption in medical care and infectious disease surveillance as no other specialist service for asylum seekers is available in Dublin city. ... read full story / add a comment
