There was an excellent response from members of the public and passers by to a protest in support of Joanne Delaney that took place outside the new Dunnes Stores in Maynooth in the Manor Mills Shopping Centre. The Mayor of Kildare Cllr. John McGinley came along to support the protest. In a shift in tactics security threatened to call the Gardaí on protestors. The protest was held by members of the Labour Party in NUI Maynooth and Maynooth town. Needless to say this attempt to scare away the protestors was ignored. ... read full story / add a comment

Minister Noel Dempsey's seems to gettting ready for a "final push" against the people of Rossport. His comments in the Dail this week that the Rossport Five only represent an "element in the community" is part of his divide and rule policy. The government "white wash" report Advantica is due out soon and then after that the Minister Dempsey is going to push ahead. His langauge in the Dail towards the supporters of the Rossport Five, strikes me that there seems to be a more confrontational attitude coming form the government now. "LIKE the Rossport five, a group of Limerick men are willing to go to jail in order to stop water from the "highly polluted” River Deel from coming into Pallaskenry." Setting up a picket line to stop the pipes being laid, the Kildimo/Pallaskenry Bleach Lough retention committee say that they would rather be locked up behind bars than be forced to drink water from a river that is "floating with dead animal carcasses, human excrement, fish kills and rubbish”. According to the vice chairperson and secretary of the group, Dan Foley, they have enjoyed clean pure water from the nearby Bleach Lough spring source for the past 50 years. And he said that they shouldn’t all be forced to take water from "one of the most polluted rivers in Ireland” when there is ample capacity at the Lough to cater for everyone. The controversial pipeline is due to reach the white picket line within the next two to three weeks. But Mr Foley said that they will be there to meet it when it comes. http://www.limerickpost.ie/dailynews.elive?id=7019&cate...y-Thu http://www.limerickpost.ie/dailynews.elive?id=7063&cate...y-Sun ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

And what are kingdoms but fair thievish purchases? For what are thieves’ purchases but little kingdoms? For in thefts the hands of the underlings are directed by the commander, the confederacy of them is sworn together, and the pillage is shared by the law amongst them. And if those ragamuffins grow up to be able enough to keep forts, build habitations, possess cities, and conquer adjoining nations, then their government is no more called thievish, but graced with the eminent name of a kingdom, given and gotten, not because they have left their practices, but because now they may use them without danger of law. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

The battle by the community in Rossport Co. Mayo to prevent Shell from riding roughshod over their rights and safety shot to national prominence late last year when 5 local men (who became known as the Rossport 5) spent over 3 months in jail. A manifestation to show solidarity with the Shelltosea campaign in Ireland took place at the Shell Station at Ullevi in Göteborg on Saturday 18th February as part of the International Day of Action in support of the campaign. The station is located along a dual carriageway which runs near the city centre so the main impact of the action was that lots of passers by saw the banner and placards. The banner read "Bojkatta Shell" while the placards read "SOLIDARITETSAKTION med KAMPANJEN 'Shell To Sea' pĺ IRLAND. Friends of the Earth (Miljöförbundet Jordens Vänner, Göteborg) brought 'along their mobile display box decorated with Shelltosea posters and a Statoil advertisement with "Greenwash" printed accross it. ... read full story / add a comment
