Any electrician knows that Lego bricks are genderless, not 'heteronormative', because each can 'mate' with any other. Perhaps Science Museum staff should study to be electricians and actually make themselves useful.

Take Back the night was a campaign instigated by two women to do just that.
Reclaim women's Spaces and safety in cities and university campuses.
Take Back the Tech believes that violence Against Women occurs on the
internet because of unequal power relationships between women and men.

It's anti-patriarchial. Contributions are welcome from men who have also
suffered in Patriarchical systems- and there are many.

Today is the first day of the campaign. http://takebackthetech.net/blogathon.htm ... read full story / add a comment

Over 20 activists initiated the daylight blockade of the central Birmingham Shell station. Three protestors 'locked on' in the entrance to prevent access to the station whilst others strung banners across the exits and a ledge looking over the forecourt (pictures to come). There were no serious encounters with motorists and passers by were generally supportive of the demo, the aims of which were to disrupt Shell's operations and to raise awareness of the struggle of the community of County Mayo, Ireland against Shell's construction of a dangerous and experimental pipeline which poses not only a danger to the environment of this idyllic part of Ireland but also the people of County Mayo. Protestors also tried to obtain a statement from the company but were unsuccessful.

Unfortuanately the details of this story or rather the details of its protagonist are scant. I can tell you with confidence that he is an Irish citizen, that he has taken medication for a psichiatric condition provided by the Catalan health service free of charge for almost a year. I can tell you the Irish diplomatic mission to Barcelona refused to assist him passage home. "Oh but they say that to everyone." If you check the fine print of Irish passport, which is the most expensive passport of any EU state but an obligatory document for any one in the Shengen area to go to / come to / return - you will see the ominious reminder don't ask your Irish embassy for help getting home. we don't have enough funds. ... read full story / add a comment
